Alienware Recommended me here, or somewhere for support in this matter. Stats: 3.06Ghz Pent 4 Processor 1024 DDR Corsair Ram 40GB HD 128mb ATI Radeon 9000m Yes, 9000M, thats M for Mobile, I bought this computer not long ago in hopes of not having a lagging system for a long period of time. I have bought this computer no more than 6 months proir to today, and I dont understand how it could be top of the line then, and scrap metal now. Alienware, said that my computer (The Exact model number, video card, etc) have been calling in crying for help because their computers don't work, or CTD 5 minutes into gameplay, that or their computers lock up. If this is true, I cant just afford 60.00 for an experiment in hopes the game works. Bottemline, is there a easy solution? Has it been found yet? Will the limited number of people (All owning this version of an ALIENWARE Area 51m!) not beable to play Doom 3? I have anticipated the game as anyone else, and am losing interest in even picking up my reserved copy, better to lose none than 60. Please hook me up with some information, I need to know, bottemline. Thanks
Guess im alone on this one eh?
Radeon 9000 is very low end graphics for Doom 3. The Radeon 9000 is not as fast as the Radeon 8500 even though it has a higher number, its more like a hotrodded Radeon 7500. And the mobile versions are usually slower.
Does your laptop have the upgradeable graphics module? If so you may need to see about upgrading it.
A Radeon 9000 is listed as a supported chipset but nothing is mentioned about the mobile version.
Everything else on your laptop is better than my desktop so I think its your graphics.
Well, yea, true. the fx card cannot be changed. It is fully intigrated into the motherboard. I hava buddy who has the exact laptop as I. He had no problems, except lag on a 1024x768 res. Switching to 800x600 fixed his problem, lag, and the graphics still looked awesome so he says. There is nothing I can do to upgrade anymore, this laptop is unupgradible, and was top of its class 6 months ago.
my main suggeston to you is, sell it and by a desktop. Laptops arn't made for gaming, even though they sell them out there, it wont give you the up most preformance as a desltop can, well this is my personal experience and what i have seen and worked with out there. the choise is yours my friend, D3 is an incredible game, and i would upgrade my system if i had to so i can play it
I don't know if this helps, but I ran it on my laptop yesterday, and it did very well. I have an HP Pavillion 7600(?), P4 3.0ghz, nvidia fx5200 go, XP, and I think it has 1gig ram. I had to run it at 640x480, 800x600 had some lag. That's probably all video card related.
Well, I would really trade my laptop in for a computer with the same specs. I really would, even if I would be losing alot of money in the process, just I dont know where I can TRADE it in, you know what I mean? Alienware wont let me do it, so I have to go to a 3rd party. If I could SELL it for more EASLY without huge nogotiations and arguments and a hard process of learning somthing and then finally getting out the door wasting more money in the process, screw it. But, if you have any ideas, please share em.
PS: How much is THIS laptop worth nowadays? 3.06Ghz Pent 4 Processor 1024 DDR Corsair Ram 40GB HD 128mb ATI Radeon 9000m

I don't see why the game shouldn't run at least OK on it. The only major difference between your laptop and mine is the graphics card. I might have to run it at the lowest resolution, but even then, it looks just fine. Also try the memory cache mod. It allowed me to up the resolution on my home system, and next time I play the game on my laptop, I'll do the same mod. It works well.
