Here's my problem. I get some kind of error that shuts down Doom 3 usually around the time I reach the spot where the planet comes spinning up from the background. I used to be able to play Doom 3 fine if a bit laggy off a 1ghz Duron before upgrading to a 1.25 Thoroughbred and an ECS KT600-A motherboard. I have 512 mb PC 2700 ram, onboard AC 97 audio, and Windows XP SP1. I have the latest drivers for the board, the graphics card, my sound, and windows all to no avail. I even tried reinstalling without any luck. I never had these issues before the new hardware. I get weird errors on some other relatively modern games now too- Conflict Vietnam and Codename: Panzers to name two. I only get audio with no sound from one and a crash before starting on the other. Oddly enough, I can play Enemy Territory without any problems at all. I took steps to correct this particular script error and still ended up having crashes. I think it could be a symptom of another problem but I really wouldn't know. Get an better processor. Thats about all I can say. Because that error is not a reason for it to just close there.

I found out my processor is actually a 2600 Thoroughbred. I had the bus wrong. I don't see how the processor can be the problem, especially now that I have it set correctly. I had no troubles at all with my 1ghz Duron and it was much inferior. Sometimes I can make it all the way to the very first starting area of the game and get maybe one step before it crashes. Someone has to have an idea of what is going on here.

Make sure you didnt chnage one of the files around in the doom folder

I haven't made any changes to the Doom folders at all. The frequent spot for the lockups now is right after I gain control after the beginning sequence. I may get in two steps if that many before the lock and crash.
