First off, Im enquiring for my friend, he got Doom 3 the day it came out and spent over an hour queing for it. Once he got home he realised his PC wasnt good enough to run it. :( So we began upgrading; Celeron 2.8ghz 1gb DDR Ram Geforce 6800gt Crappy standard hard drive Now on the few quiet bits of Doom 3 (Mainly the beginning) Theres no loss of frame rate and the graphics look awesome, but as soon as he has to kill more than 1 thing that moves the frame rate drops A LOT! down to maybe 2 per second at the best :S Now I think that he should upgrade to an AMD Athlon 64 and hes quite willing to do so as long as it will get the game to run. I just need someone else to say that he needs rid of his celeron and it will work better, I also told him he could use a faster hard drive, maybe a seagate barracuda 7200rpm 120gb. And now because he cant get Doom 3 to work he has decided not to use his pc because it irritates him that he has the game but cannot use it Please help us out with this, thanks in advance.

Yes it's the celeron. My father has a AMD 64, every game runs great. So I really can recommend a AMD 64.

Also let him take a look on this tweak I made: http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?t=143806 May increase the FPS a lot when he doesn't want to upgrade (again)

Well.. 1st he NEEDS a faster Hardrive.. nuttin works okay if it cant be read fast! :P And second... Go get a freakin´ AMD64.. and if u got the money: make it a fx type! That means that u´ve got to have a new mobo 2.. and btw is the 6600gt an agp or an pci-e?

the 6800gt is agp, and is awesome, but if you got that little bit extra go for the 6800 ultra, its worth the extra £30
