Well, there was a time when I thought Pedro's Harmonica was going to be CP, or maybe I should say ALSO going to be CP. Actually, the tunnel part was going to be a big part of the CP action, and it does play less of a role as an "objective" type map. But you bring up a good point. Is CP worth playing these days, and would anyone be interested. Hard to say. We have been playing "objective" for quite some time now. If there is somehow some uniqueness to the map, it may get a lot of play.

In the case you have described, you only have one side going for the flags? In such a case, you will probably get the "defenders" camping one or two of the easiest to defend flags. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, just that it needs to be thought out from both an offensive and defensive point of view. (No matter what type of map it is).

You could consider "beta"ing the map as a CP map, and let everyone decide while they bulletproof it. If it ultimately appears that an "objective" map would be more to everyone's taste, then do that for your final.

These are just opinions Gringo, just thought I'd thow them out.

I guess I'll have to do both. I didn't think of an unbalanced CP, and wouldn't know how to do it yet, but that would prevent a neverending game. Hmmmm I think you gave me a good idea. In CP, only the Cowboys will have to get all flags to win (since they're taking the town back). You can vote for gametype on most servers, but I think the map is better for CP since it's small.

FYI, town, and hacienda have a CP mode !!! only played them in CP mode once though, during initial testing with BoltyBoy !!!

CP only map would be a bad idea imho....I know that trying to think of an original idea for an objective is hard, and somtimes the scripting can be even harder !!!... post any ideas you've had for objectives, so others can comment & add their own suggestions..... heres a freebie from me...

get the key from "somewhere" open the door to the "place" blow the "something" in the "place" to get access to the "something else", take the "something else" "somewhere" and win ;) hehe, ok needs more detail, but might help spur your imagination :D

I was under the impression that you were using the church as an objective point? Seems the logical option to me.

How about - The town church's bell was damaged in a storm so the local metal smith has been working on a replacement. But the scheming bandiots realised this was an opportunity to attack - since the church bell is used to warn nearby villages to come to the town's help in times of danger. So with no bell the town is ripe for the picking.

In come the cowboys. They must fight their way to the metal smith to find the bell and take it back to the church so that they can sound the alarm.

So have the bell somewhere up the top of town - near the saloon? Cowboys would start down by the river. Thereby having to first fight up the hill in to town and then once they have the bell they'd need to get across town to the church. Maybe have a mid-spawn point in the stable.

This way your entire map would see combat - some cowboys may attempt to seize the church and hold off the banditos until other cowboys have succesful stolen the bell. The bandits would initially spawn by the stable and once that is taken they would have to spawn at the back of town - near the church but not in it or too near as this would make the church too easy to defend.

What ya think?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah I noticed wildwest_town had CP, but never played it. You guys are right about needing objectives. Bolty, can I copy the objectives and script for wildwest_town and hack them? Your idea about the bell is awesome, but I like the way it rings right now...;) I'm thinking of something similar. Like the cowboys rescuing the beer recipe from the brewery, and bringing it to the escape tunnel under the church. Something sort of funny, but possible. I'm more of a comedian than story teller, so it's hard to take it seriously. I was thinking of sticking with money, but "we" have that theme twice. I was also thinking of forcing the bandits out of town by blowing a water tower, the butcher shop, etc... Like starving them out. Dude, I just thought of an awesome idea! How bout rescuing the cowboy's prize pig before the bandits eat it! "Gotta get it dolled up for the state fair next week, partner". And if the cowboys fail, how bout it roasting over a campfire? Ok, it's more farmish, than WildWest, but it's just a thought. That might make a good segway to another map though.

I've finaly had a chance to wander round the compile of your map you sent me :) ... very very good, I like it....

I did have a couple of missing texture, but thats no-problem, I'll go through all that with you before you release it :)

a couple of points though.. 1) the windows seem too stong.. maybe reduce their health a bit ? 2) did you intend for players to be able to jump through the churchs stained glass window ?

I like boltys idea for an objective, and I also like the idea of stealing a prize pig .. hehe.. the decision is yours I guess, but I think both would work well, and perhaps the pig idea is the most original :)

Thank you very much. I was trying to limit the size of the pk3 and guess I deleted some jpegs :(. I switched textures on those anyway. I've been working on it a lot recently. Wait till you see the saloon. Anybody wanna find non-copyrighted music for the "player piano"?

The windows, what a pane :)! I'm gonna have to rework that stained glass damnit. It used to glow. The light from it lands on nearby surfaces still, but the actual glass looks dark. The regular windows...yeah I could reduce the health on them.

Bolty, if I buy this pig model can you animate it a bit? I haven't looked into whether I can distribute it in a pk3 though.
