Installed it last nite on my second PC with XP Home edition, and Doom 3 worked like a charm. However, my gaming rigg has Win XP Pro, and the problem continued there. Using the tip above with a limited account worked almost. The log said it could not create the gamex86.dll file. Kinda like a catch 22 as I think the limited account didn't have the rights to create the file under C:\Program Files\Doom 3\Base. So, just another uninstall, and another install. This time on my second hard drive, as the limited user account has full rights there. And holy doom, it works. Sweet. An interesting, annoying and puzzling problem. Seems to be connected to Win XP Pro, or? Any other work around ? Guess I could have given the limited account the proper rights on C:\ also. This might be the way to go if you have only one hard drive.

I'm having the same problem but the doom3.exe file was already in my hard drive and I was trying to run it from there but still having the same problem. If the above works could possibly give a more elaborate step by step scenario of what to do for those of us who don't have a second hard drive. I tried setting up a limited account but it restricted my access and wouldn't let me re-install. Do I need to turn on full rights for my limited account and how do I do that and will it still work being on the same hard drive as my account? Also, why doesn't the game work under my account considering that I do have full rights but get the horrible, insert cd 1, message?
