What OS are you using? Have you updated your video card drivers and sound card drivers? What version of Direct X are you using? Have you enabled features that your card can't handle? What options have you enabled in the advanced video set-up?
I think i found your problem. Considering you are running on a laptop, and your video card is an ATi 9700. (mobility version no doubt).. that's your problem.
I for one have an ATi 9700 Pro for my home PC. But i don't think a 9700 mobility card for your labtop is going to cut it in a 3D game like doom III.
But, then again... i'm not sure how far they've pushed the limitations with laptops. Do what the above said. He's got the right idea. But if worst comes to worst and you are still having the lock up problem. I suggest you don't try running Doom III on a labtop, being that mobility cards aren't exactly the best in the world.
Ok. Whats OS?

1. Not sure what that is. 2.As far as I know yes. 3. DirectX 9.0 4.Not that I know of. 5. I'm about go check
This is how it was when I first looked at it: 1.High Quality Sound Effects-Yes 2.Shadows-Yes 3.Specular-Yes 4.Bump Map-Yes 5.Vertical Sync-No Antialiasing-Off So there it is, I hope you can get something out of that.
OS is your windows for example.
Such as, windows XP, Me, 2000, 98... etc.
And don't just think if your drivers are up to date. Goto device managers and make sure.

ok well i am suffering from teh same problem. The game crashes randomly on me. i am running Win XP Home, P4 2.8, 1 gig ram, on a ati radeon 9200. it is overclocked to 250/200. I am thinking that this is the problem but just wanted to hear from some of you. I have done the .cfg file tweak and d/l'ed the omega ati radeon drivers. any help would be great Brian
Yea i'd deff try to put it back to normal settings and see if that doesn't work. And also consider some ATi cards are just buggy with doom III right now and there is no solution until a patch is released, or a new driver is released by ATi.
I suggest trying the Catalyst 4.9 BETA Doom III drivers.
::warning::: The beta drivers are not supported by ATi, as such if it causes a problem with your computer ATi will be in no way responsible. So download at your own risk.
With that said, i have the beta drivers and my comp runs smoothly with an ATi card.
Ok. My dad brought the laptop into the shop. The guy put the new drivers in. Same problem. So we're going upgrade the desktop but my desktop has a 9200 but Brian has the same video card and its screwed up. Gosh this is a lot work just to play this game. ATI just F*cked it all up. NICE JOB ATI!
