anyone else get a "sync out of range" display on their monitor when they try to boot up the game after changing resolution to anything other than 640x480? cant seem to figure out the problem. i can hear the sound but all i get is that message on my monitor. i've tried everything too. updated my vid card drivers and monitor drivers. i'm using an ATI 9600XT 128mb and a samsung syncmaster 753DF. someone please help! i don't want to play at 640x480 forever!

Check your vid card drivers and see if their is a setting to enable vertical sync.

If out of sync I think that means computer and card are drawing pictures faster than the monitor can handle but the computer should draw its pictures based on the vertical sync rate.

On your windows right click, go to properties, and go to settings, go to advanced, go to monitor and see if monitor refresh rate is set to default. If not set it to defalut or a lower refresh rate. Windows may have set a refresh rate faster than monitor can handle.

right now my resolution in windows is 1152x864 at 75hz. when i play games i always use 1024x768, never higher or lower. i've never had a problem before until Doom3. btw, i tried setting the rate lower (to 60hz, lowest it can go, there is no default) and still no luck. and my vsync is always on. any other suggestions?? anyone??

aside from the obvious (low system specs) I have a desktop resolution at 1024 x 768 @ 85Hz (17" crt) i am unable to do the same when i play doom 3 it defaults to 60Hz. I try overide settings but it seems ignored and it wont follow my graphics adjustments; only the in game adjustments work. How do I get around this refresh rate issue?
