     I'm a little pissed off. We seem to have a compettitor add on 'high rotation' on our forum. been on twice today and first thing i see when i hit our forum is this bugger below. I know GF pays for itself with advertising but dam, this on OUR FORUM really ticks me off. I mean we are struggling trying to get wild west off the ground and this sure doesn't help if folks first impression of our forum is to see that up there. Before I do something rash, Queeg can ya talk to Noe to see if it can be 'NOT PLACED on ANY WILD WEST forums'. If it's gonna be a 'regular occurance' on our forums then I say we ditch GF. Gonna go sign off and blow off steam before i do something rash.

Don't worry, it's no compitition. I decided it wasn't even worth posting a thread about a few weeks ago. Go to the site and download the demo if you can spare the time. I watched it about 10 times and then decided I wouldn't want to play the game for 5 minutes. It is too unreal. The breakable styrofome that comes with every explosion is neat at first. I love the cannon and I think the way that stuff is damaged as entities is intriguing. However it is not direct compition to us. If anything, if it does well it will convince companies that the move to Western styled games is on in earnest. Which I happen to think is true. The script for the ads is generic to all of GF. It is not weighted at all from the gaming forums side (I just looked) and that would be next to impossible to add unfortunately. It uses the same source script as file front itself. So the content dictate comes from even higher than n0e. Sorry :( I expect this occurs on a regular basis for the other subforums (ads from competitors).... We're the odd duck out since we are not just the fans but we are owners too! [edit]By demo I mean the movie...[/edit]

I wondered if it was on purpose too. Whatever, it's built on Unreal. Mods on that blow. It's a twitch fest.

Well, I hate to sound like I am uncaring or unsympathetic, but Atari put a game together and got it to market. The WildWest team did not. This is capitalism at it's finest. Good for them!

I have looked at the demo, and I was not impressed. It looks like an arcade game, rather cartoonish. Extended gameplay will tell the tale as to whether or not people tire of it.

The WildWest has one thing that DMH does not. Ours is free. Maybe this is the spark we need to either get moving and work towards a commercial version of WW, or hang loose and enjoy WW the way it is. I really don't see them as any kind of competition for WW. This forum really has little impact on the popularity of WW. Many of the players don't even participate in forum activity. All they see is servers, and the number of people who are playing on them. We need to concentrate harder on getting the word out about WildWest. Ig

I played Wolf the other night as Play WildWest, and I swear there were new people the next day. Somebody even asked one of the players if they played on "old crow's", which is the one I was on! lol Coincidence? Maybe.

Well call me crazy, but now for the third time IN A ROW, the first add at the top of our forum is theirs. What does that say to folks visiting us for the first time to see that? Not so sure the adds are truely random as they can be 'seeded' to a higher rotation on sections that may have more hits. I've written that kind of code and seen it at work (note the adds on my wild west test page were all geared to wildwest (from catching the words in the page) Well I'll hold my toung for now, but if it keeps apearing each time I hit the forums I'll send Noe a message. (I'll try to be civil but I might end up banned) It's not fair to Hewster. Not only has he been dedicated to this site through all their grief stricken 'upgrades' he's also responsible for luring Crash and Queeg to the site (and got them working for them too.

Go ahead and ask, it's a valid question... As long as you don't flame him, there's no problem with asking...

well i don't see any adverts, cos NIS get rid of them all :) Not sure what to make of this advertising, but it does look like its being placed here on purpose (and indeed that makes sence for them to-do so ) I agree with Queeg: "If anything, if it does well it will convince companies that the move to Western styled games is on in earnest. Which I happen to think is true." It is indeed something to use to our benifit when approaching Publishers.. maybe... just maybe this is the start of several WW style FPS :) Huey

yup, that ad is now 5 for 5 on first visits to wild west forums for me. I've emailed Noe and we are having a dialog, not sure if anything will come of it, but the add is definately picking up on the key words in WW or been specifically cued for our forums.
