note if u change any files of the root dir no matter how small it will break online games, if u still want to change the names u'll have to make it a mod.
If it does that, you'll need to create a mod, create a UCS file within that mod and override the strings for the IDs in that UCS file. That way you can still play online, just as long as you don't have the mod enabled when you play (or the other person is a friend and also has the mod installed)
Already got that covered ;)
you can stuff with the local file if u want and not have to much backlash.
Just make a mod and open up the attrib editor and do the following. If you want to say change the name of an IG squad do this.... Go to squad blue print and go to ui. See those numbers? Change them to the name you want. Then after each change save and then save as binary 1. Now go to Entry blue print and find the unit and change to UI again and save and then save as binary 1. Exit and start your mod and the unit will be called what ever you named it.
That's one way, only not a good way for a full mod - it isn't translatable if you do it that way ;)
i just made backup copies of the original ucs files so i could edit them and i just place the originals back in the folders to play online
