This maybe an odd proposal, but I am looking to create a star wars mod for Dawn of War, and because most modders of that game are fans of Warhammer, their forums don't have a lot of star wars fans looking to make a star wars mod, so I am looking for some here. The basic Idea is to use a really good ground combat RTS with plenty of modding capability like Dawn of War and create a clone wars total conversion. Empire at War has a very nice galatic conquest and pretty good space battles, but the ground combat leaves plenty to desire. For the most part I am just looking to see if I can get enough people interested in forming a mod team before I consider even trying such a feat.

sounds possible, just mod the imperial guard, you could always skin them as rebels.

if you mean actually make a totally new game, not just a mod, take it up with relic lol

No i think he means just new techs and use the same concept as dawn of war cause it is a simple RTS with a simple users interface. Oh and new maps to match the new techs. That kinda sounds fun but i have no clue how to make techs for dawn of war with G-max. PEW PEW BANG!!

You mean revamp the interface, remove all traces of the warhammer IP etc?

Because due to the GW ip you can add stuff from another ip into the game engine only if you don't use any warhammer stuff in it.

So just taking spacemarine models changing a few names and calling them stormtroopers would not work.

And from my understanding of it, from some sources whom had the cease and desist order, textures, scenary, FX are under copyright.... so you can use the engine, and put a total conversion mod on this site. Or you could get a free game engine off the internet, run with it and pray to whatever god you hold holy that Lucas doesn't come after you. Or you can buy Empires at War and mod that. It's a much better game engine than DoW anyway so why bother with this at all?

doesnt the star wars rts have space battles in it? cause that gives me a cool idea to make a battlefleet gothic mod for dawn of war. think that would work? or maybe bloodbowl....that would be kinda strange but i think a battlefleet gothic mod would be cool.

There is a Battlefleet Gothic Mod out, it's a total conversion of DoW RelicNews Forums - Total Conversion: Battlefleet Gothic - Oh look, Eldar. ...Blood Bowl would be very cool though.

Creature engine is vastly superior to the EAW one. The only thing that EAW is better at is the tactical map.

That said it has a number of hardcoded stuff that would make the making of a BG mod easier - for instance the way dogfights are handled.

Those would be good if you were planning on a TT represantation of TT. Still something like sins of the solar empire or sword of stars would be heaps better.

If you wanted to add the z-axis - well then you can't go wrong with either nexus the jupiter incident or homeworld

as to free ware engines - spring has quite a big sw mod
