one question, does a mod army have to be of 40k background or can it be a personal creation?
alright this is a very legal question asked many times basically the whole thing has to have 40k characters and nothing else to throw the fluff off or backstory if it does have anything to that sort then all 40k characters have to be removed also basically its 40k all the way your own races all the way or games workshop will throw a hissy fit this is all under the notion that this is going for public use later if it is not going to be released then they dont give a rats ass
wait wait so u can't make uo your own make belive army...
so i can make my own race as long as i make other races to fight an not use 40k races. have i got that right
From What I can tell, as long as it has something to do with 40k then it can be done. BUT if it is not you cannot use the 40k races with it. For example, if you have your own special Guard Regiment that uses Xenos weaponry or is very high-tech, and it has some kind of back story that doesn't mess up already established Fluff, its ok. A NON-example would be something like putting a whole bunch of Halo Master Chief s in and saying they teleported into th future you cant, because it messes up fluff and Games Workshop does not own Halo or anything of that sort. If you were to do this you would have to remove ALL 40k Content. That sort of thing would be something considered a "total Conversion" I pretty sure that is correct but you should check here anyway: http://forums.relicnews.com/announcement.php?f=96&announcementid=29
Yeah everything they said is true. There's also another catch if the mod is going to be released publically. If you are going to do... a Half Life mod you would need to take out everything 40k, as well as asking Gearbox, or whoever owns the Intellectual Property if you can create such a mod and release it to the public. Just look at the Halo mod: RnR. Microsoft closed them down, but if they really wanted to they would be able to complete the mod as long as it was for personal use only. I myself think its a bunch of crap, considering how much work they had already done, and how long it actually took Microsoft to finally take them out.
so if i were to have a imaginary race (which i do) and i want to mod and release it, i would be unable to do it?
basically theres two universes 40k and your imaginary one if the two cross then you will be sued if you release it to the public
i still don't get the big deal is...
its because games workshop is like a big geek if you mess with any of their collectibles and stuff theyll whine and complain until you stop then if you kep doing it they will rip your eyes out with their pocket protector get it now..........
