Want to help make an awesome campaign? We are looking for help! Our goal is to make a linear multiplayer campaign that follows a cool storyline. Experienced mappers, modders and modlers are greatly appreciated, as well as people living in different countries. This campaign will also produce large scale scenarios of many continents and countries, and it would be great to have help from people who know these areas well!
Storyline Snapshot: During the infamous "Age of Strife" the real planet Earth was pulled into the warp and reappeared in a remote sector, being replaced by the "Holy Terra" planet that became throne to the Emperor. Thousands of years later a reconnaissance probe reported the apparent remains of former civilization on this uninhabited world. The Imperium was disinterested until the advance of Tyranid devastation drew very close. If it was ever to be explored it had to be now, so a small contingent is sent, just as the first Tyranid invaders arrive. They soon discover that this mysterious planet is none other than the birthplace of all life. The explorers heighten their efforts, hoping that its ruins contain vital information that could return meaning and purpose to the Imperium, while the enemies of mankind would rather these secrets be lost forever. Obsessed with petty rivalries, glory seeking and revenge, none realize what advantage the DNA imprints in the ancient fossil records could give the gene-stealing Tyranids until it might be too late...Who is already on the team?
tyoungls is our head coder, having created the EZScar programming system. He has brought Worlds at War, Orky Olympics and other cool maps to the community.
Maxxta is our chief modder and journeyman mapper, having made Chaos Assault Survival Map and several other innovative maps and mods. redeemed74 (yours truly) is the chief mapper and stands as head mac when it comes to the overall project. Some accomplishments are Twin Towers and Verdant Valley.
Red_Hammerthe originator of the Tyranid Swarm forum thread and map tester.
So, who else wants to help out? Any more names we can add to this list? We are in the stages of determining how big to make this, and if we are the only ones working on this we might have to aim small. But with the right kind of help we could be brining to the community a massive, well made and totally fun campaign. Come on and join us! Aside from coders and mappers, I need some speakers for the audio segments in the storyline. You know how hard it is to find a good Tyranid voice? (Ok, that's a joke – but I really do need some voices for humans, Orks, Tau, Eldar, etc.)
This thread is for all questions, comments and such relating to the general campaign, as well as to get to know folks who want to help out. The real nuts and bolts are going to be worked out elsewhere, and only team members will have access to it.

Umm I can't really mod at all but I could represent USA or more specifically Colorado, we have a large number of military bases and maybe you could somehow include that in the campaign

Earth replaces with Terra? That sounds rather unrealistic, you made that up right? For the rest the motives of the factions look very, very good. Unfortunatly I cannot help you in this promising project>no modding skills. -wikipedia
Great, Jess4909, Colorado is a great! In my Risk2 map I tried to make pine trees which don't yet have a model. I can't say they were great, but they more or less worked. Have you used the Mission Editor yet? I could send you the heightmap and let you know what I know, and see what you come up with!
Maxxta, I don't know how to get rid of your old account and it might be best to leave it since you said some good things and had some threads going that probably should stay around. I suggest just adding a comment on those threads that this is your new account and going on from there.
Wikipedia (Cleanse, Purge and Kill), it is great to have input from guys like you! I will admit I knew I was stretching things pretty far to have a whole planet pulled into the warp. But I have wanted to do something with the actual Earth for a while, since I have access to high resolution elevation data for it that very nicely imports into the map editor. The hard part was going to be using it, since Holy Terra by 40K is nothing but one massive city and would be completely different. I admit I was more looking for an excuse to still be have our planet much like it currently is, still in the Warhammer setting.
So the current idea is that the massive warp storms engulfed the entire original planet, and at the same time the one that was to become Terra as well. When they reemerged from the warp the two had completely switched places. No animal or human life could survive this horrible experience (don't ask me how plants did - perhaps you could suggest something?) but quickly traders and invaders from nearby planets repopulated Terra and finally it became what it is know as in 40K. The actual Earth remained quietly at peace in it's new location with only few ruins of our ancient civilization remaining by the time this campaign kicks in. By they way, I am quite open to suggestions on this! If you would like to be on the team to read through the more detailed storylines and such, that would be great! Mapping is going to be a large part of the workload, and it isn't very hard to learn if you are interested in that too.
what about an alternate universe? rather than doing a swap with the planets, holy terra has been in the w40k universe then a freak warp storm brings in a "replica" or "legendary" (i dunno use ure imagination) planet into a deserted region of space,
Slightly cooler than a n00b

Ya every time I have tried to install the mission editor I have had problems but if you could help me with this I would be more than happy to make a Colorado map. So ya basically whenever I try to make a new map a bunch of warning signs pop up in the debug window and then a screen pops up that says "could not intalize remaining engine features" any ideas on how to fix this

Ahhh, this is a problem that can be quite a challenge, depending on what is really causing it. I found that if I did not have the Dark Crusade patches (1 and 2) installed when I set up the mission editor, then it didn't work even if I later installed the patches. If you think this could be the case, uninstall the editor, install the patches, then reinstall the editor. There are various other problems that can come up with different video cards, I think Maxxta had quite a problem with his when he was first getting it set up.
yea, i kept getting that message on my old computer, i had all the patchs etc for dark crusade, but it still wouldnt work, I think it turned out that i didnt have a big enough grafix card to run it. Dark crusade is demanding in the grafix department but mission editor is even more demanding since you can zoom out and see the whole map.
