I recieved an email from STGU and figured I'd pass on the news:
It came to STGU's attention earlier today through a message board post at the Official Star Trek Website that fans had come across information that a new Star Trek game, tentitivley titled Star Trek Online was on it's way. This was backed up by the SciFi Universe website, who posted links to images on the official Star Trek Website's server for possible inclusion on the site at a future date.
Putting the description error aside, this image fits with the existing theme of the official site, and it's location on their server peaked more than a few eyebrows. Even though no official announcement has been made regarding these rumours, the message board post and the images on the webserver were removed earlier today after word spread...
Guess they will have to come forward with some kind of response sson. Reminds me of when EF2 information was leaked a few weeks before it was time for them to make an official statement. :)
I posted the news on my site as soon as I read it
Piercing the veil.
9th August 2003
Sounds interesting, it will be battling Star Wars: Galaxies.
Sci Fi Universe has a new article on the possiblity of who the developer is, there is even a note on Startrek.com about Perpetualent Entertainment who is a San Francisco based producer, publisher, and operator of networked multi-player and massively multi-player games for the PC and next-generation videogame consoles.
And on Perpetualent Entertainment's website is says they are currently developing two AAA online games. Which they havent named. They also have on their website news that is a few days early: Sept 7, 2004 Perpetual Entertainment Secures $6.5 Million investment. Be sure to spread the news :D
The image that was leaked on Friday is now on the main page of startrek.com. Guess it wont be long until what everyone has been guess is official. :)
Paramount can't deny it much longer. That's pretty much one of their only options, considering there was a massive security failure on the Star Trek site from Paramount. Still, we could be waiting for it... It takes about 2-3 years to develop one of these. Even if it has been in the works...
