Alright, I use JK2Radiant and I know how much this really displays my inexperience, but the tutorial I've been using for reference isnt clear at all on making what I need. I want a brush that acts as a lift triggered by a button and not by someone stepping on it. (Just as a side-note I want the lid of a coffin-type thing to ascend when a switch is pushed.) I am pretty sure I understand the func_useable and start-off things for the buttons, but the more complete an explanation is, the better.:uhm:

Well I am not to good at func_usables so I will tell you the way I do it. First make a brush and texture it with the on version of the switch. Then make annother brush in front of that and texture it in the off version of the switch. then make the off switch into a func_door and put the key lip and the value -6 and the key speed and the value 5000. You can also add a wait key to make it wait a certain amount of time before it retures to the "off" position. Then make the door swicth target the elevator or whatever you are using. Then make a brush in front of the switches and cover it with the trigger shader. then make it into a trigger multiple. then make it target the dorr switch thing and make the trigger have the flag use button checked. you can also add a direction key to it and a wait key. Then compile and play.

great, that makes it a bit easier, doesnt the lid of my coffin-thing (the piece that will lift up) need to have some settings? Anything besides simply func_plat?

And the switch thats set as a door, does it need to have the angle set towards the wall?

sorry I forgot to tell you that the switch does need to point twords the wall. You can add things to the coffin lid like speed and delay stuff but it isn't needed. You will need to set the height though.

if you don't put any delay key in, then the platform will just go down after 3 seconds only if no one is on it. If you add a delay it will always go back after the delay, even if someone is on it. I usually add the key delay and the value 3000. It is 3000 not just 3 because it is in milliseconds. if you put 3 it wil go down as soon as it gets to the top. Putting 3000 will make it go down after 3 seconds.

Sounds useful.... That actually may be my problem... I have a switch to activate the lift (lid of a coffin-type thing) on the other end of the map and around some corners. Maybe my lift really IS going up, but its going down before I run back to see it work.... If this is in fact the problem you may have saved me a lifetime of annoyance...
