Yo. I'm trying myself at a total conversion and i was wonderin...what do you need to edit the opening prologue? (yellow text that scrolls up)
There is a file calle tcengl.tga or something in assets0.pk3.. Open it in Photoshop, or any other good image editing program, look for the alpha channel in it. Basically, just type whatever it is you want, make the type an alpha channel and then resave it as a 32bit TGA image and finally, put it in a pk3.
Would photoshop 7 work?
I searched in the help for alpha channel.
I didn't read everything, but can someone explain it easily
"Press on ...., ......."
Do i need to extract it?
Ok,umm...forgive me for being a sucker...how do i edit the text once i have the alpha channer loaded?
can anyone point me to a tutorial?
I'll try to explain.. but I'm bad at explaining so sorry before hand hehe.. Also, I only have PS6, so I'm not sure how different PS7 is. This requires some kind of knowledge of using PS and Winzip.
First, open assets0.pk3 and extract tc_engl.tga to your 'base' folder. Next, open up Photoshop and open tc_engl.tga.
In the window which has the 'layers' tab, look for a tab that says 'channels'. Select it.
You should see something like RGB Red Green Blue Alpha2 or something similar.. Alpha2 has the text.
Now go back to the 'layers' tab.. Create a new layer.. type whatever you want, in whatever font you want as long as it fits in the same picture width and height. When you've finished typing, make all the text white. Then, get out of the text box thing and right click on the text layer in the 'layers' window (where it has the layer name and a big 'T').
Select 'Rasterize Layer'.
Now, Ctrl+click in the little window that is next to your layer name. It should select all the text on that layer.
Now, go to your 'channels' tab. Create a new channel.
In the new channel, fill in white in the selected area. Leave the surrounding black. Deselect (ctrl+d) when you're done filling in the white.
Delete Alpha2 channel (the one with Raven's writing).
Now, re-save your image as "tc_engl.tga" Make sure "Alpha channels" is ticked in the options below the file name.. and save it as a 32bit tga.
Repack this tga in the 'menu/video' folder and name it something like zmenu.pk3.
Run the game and see :) I changed it a bit for fun hehe.. see attached pic..
Looks like i either dont get it or the menu names are different...anyways...if worse comes to worse, would make me one if i give you the text?
