There are many people saying that the maps provided by Raven for JKA are somewhat boring, in comparison to JKO I would tend to agree. However, then the bonus set appeared on the scene and I thought that made a big improvement, particularly on the FFA side. Nevertheless, I still hanker after some of my real old favourite maps.

I am probably being simplistic (mapping noob definitely) but when you use a JKO map in JKA there are textures missing. In order to correct this, it is not quite as simple as just finding which textures are missing and repackageing them into JKA, is it?

I am having problems in that the console does not always say that there are any textures missing, and there are other issues as well.

In addition, where a mapper has used lots of custom textures and there are virtually non missingwhen playing a JO map in JKA, I am still finding that there is a big, big difference in the lighting. Being a noob to this, I would be grateful if some of u experienced mappers would care to comment helpfully on this.

I am finding that I just cannot live in JKA without the full complement of, among others, WEDGE's maps, for example, COTA, Mars, especially OTS with ships, and most, most definitely Oracle. Ab FAb, Tal Erulanei is done in JKO format. But if authors are not going to convert, then it is left to the frustrated (but very grateful) user to cobble something of a conversion themselves.

I cannnot be the only person frustrated by this, can I?

Tal Erulanei IS converted to JA format. Look for it at www.jk3files.com

Console always says what textures are missing, so it isn't problem.

But the problem IS with lights. JO maps ale mostly too dark (sometimes too light)

Czesc MeusH,

would it be the same in modelling, because just one or two of my favourite models are JKO. When I view them in JKA games they have some missing textures, but the console does not say they are missing. Sometimes after repeated respawning, the so called missing textures re-appear (explain that then!), but the models never start complete in game.

I am more interested in how to correct this difference in lighting. Got any suggestions? I was particularly interested in converting for my own use only after getting permission, Wedge's map Oracle. There appears to be just one texture missing but the difference in the lighting levels is considerable. If you have not tried Wedges maps, I really recommend you try them. In every way, they are some of the best ever made for JKO. Certainly I am sure anyone interested in taking up mapping could learn lots from these, this guy has style. Check him out if you are not already familiar with him.

Maybe I should have checked, but I was sure I posted originally on JKA forums not JO (Old age creeping up on me). Perhaps this thread would have got a better response there.

You're right about models, console doesn't shows info about missing player textures.

But it always shows info about missing map textures.

To change lights to appear correctly, you need .map file. Ask this guy for .map file, and change lights.

And to make JO model work correctly in JA, ask modeller to change skeleton... Thet's it

Well the thread appears on JK2/3files in either forum. I'll check out that guys maps also, I have played one or two of them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a suggestion which I have deicded is not needed but will remain for other probs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You probebly think that this is the lamest response; Have you updated to the latest patch which should fix any errors? If you already have the latest patches, notify raven of any bugs you encounter with JK2/3 or any other games it sponsors. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I admit that Ravens or who ever makes the maps do not make them perfectly well." In JK2, in Nar Shadaa, there is a texture which flickers and I do have the latest patch.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Forget the top bit -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you swap a file from JK2 into JK3, the directory for textures and stuff like that are different because it is slightly changed to JK2. You need to edit it and correct the directorys and every other thing which is causing a problem.

"How" would be different for each file. I don't think I can explain "How" though, But I can explain "What" the problem is in more detail if you want.
