If ur talking about modelling, I think u need JA MP public SDK, there is one particular shader tool there, haven't used it yet but i think thats the one.......or if you want the more manual one, i think u can use Photoshop and convert it to JA (I dunno, what file it is cuz I overheard it somewhere), thats all i can say, asked some expperts cuz i'm not good at doing textures.....

You can easily make textures with ANY paint program like Adobe Photoshop (probably the best), Jasc Paint Shop Pro OR you could even use Microsoft Paint

well are you wanting shaders or textures? Textures are the easiest. Use any paint program, make your texture, but make sure you size it like the following: 64x64 128x128 256x256 1024x1024 or any combination like 64x128 ect. Save the file as a jpg.

Shaders, no idea. I think theres a readme in the JASDK.

remember though to put that in the right place. make a folder in ur base directory called "textures". in that folder make a folder of ur liking.. "mines" or whatever. be sure to run it with sv_pure 0 since the new textures will not be included ingame. now.. if u want the ez way. just put in the textures in the same pk3 as the map. put the map, arena, levelshot in the right place first. then put the textures in the pk3 under textures/mines or whatever. then place the pk3 in the base folder. if u done it correctly then the "mines" will appear in your textures list.

Here are the basics i give to everyone else when i answer a thread like this:

1. Open or find any paint program, get used to it and learn how it works.

Choose several to use with different types of options.

Suggestions: Paint(not many people use that) , Paintshop Pro(I have it and it is fantastic), Adobe Photoshop(It is professional and is supposed to be easy to use, but you have to pay for it), Gimp(Can help with filter and many other effects), IrfanView(It's options are slightly different to Gimp's). Thats enough examples.

2. Design and think over what you want your texture to be like.

3. Have a go, it does not have to be perfect, I sometimes take a while to make textures myself.

4. If your making a path that is grey, you might want to Emboss it into stone!

Tidy, use effects and colors to keep it good, keep saving and re-opening into other programs to edit with different options.

Facts and Help:

Final textures should be in .jpg format.

Texture sizes and how they work are as shown below:

2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024

2 = 2=2 4 = 2x2=4 8 = 2x2x2=8 16 = 2x2x2x2=16 32 = 2x2x2x2x2=32 64 = 2x2x2x2x2x2=64 128 = 2x2x2x2x2x2x2=128 256 = 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2=256 512 = 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2=512 1024 = 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2=1024

Custom textures you would have to put into new folders in PK3's:

Create a .zip file Create a folder called "Textures" Create a folder and call it whatever you want.

Place your Texture(s) into folder what ever you called it. Place that folder into "Textures". Place Textures into the .zip file. Rename the zip file to WHATEVERYOUWANT.pk3 and click OK to any error messages which come up for that reason.

Not custom Textures:

They would have to take over images. Your texture would have to be one that exist's to overwrite it.

Place your texture into a new folder named one of the following:

bespin, cairn, colors, common, decals, doomgiver, flares, hoth, imp_mine, impdetention, impgarrison, kejim, nar_hideout, nar_streets, narshaddaa, skies, system, tests, yavin.

Place that folder into a new folder called "Textures". Place that into a new .zip file. Rename the zip file into WHATEVERYOUWANT.pk3

The names of all of the textures cannot be listed unless i take an our looking for them all. To mod, simple copy and paste all of the Assets.pk3's to your desktop and rename the one's on the desktop into Assets.zip from Assets.pk3 clicking off any error messages.

Don't worry, it's always a long reply for me when it comes to textures. Thats all of it together in order. With a few of my own not said in this thread idea's.
