I read the tutorial on how to make a skin, and I changed all of the jpgs and tgas, and now I'm trying to finish it. I'm a little confused by the 3rd step where it says :

"3.) Now open up the .jpg and .tga files in that directory and modify whichever ones you want to, then save them out *under a different name*. [When you do, find the name of the image file you modified in the new .skin file you copied and replace the name of the original image file with the name of the new one you just saved.] "<--The wording on this is just a little hard to understand...how exactly do you go about doing this?

Anyway, I downloaded the .glm importer for milkshape 3d, opened up the model I was working on in there and added the skins to that and got it how I wanted it. Is there any way to export this back as a .glm? (the program saves it as a .ms3d) If I find a way to do this do I have to worry about Step 3 up there or will the .glm work in the game? Thanks, Marc

There is no .glm exporter for Milkshape yet.

You could also try reading this thread: http://forums.filesnetwork.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4340 (Look for zaklamp's post, he kinda explains there)

Additionaly, I would recommend you read the skinning tutorial at HC Exar Kun's site, it's way simpler than Mike Gummelt's one.. Find it at: http://exarkun.jk2files.com (Look at the news post for the link)

Thanks for the tips... I read through the tutorial, which was much more helpful. I didn't understand that you had to open the .skins in a word processor. However, I followed the instructions exactly and when I go into setup on the main menu, my character is there, but with no icon. (yes I made icons and followed what the tutorial said to do regarding them) But when I create a game, my character is no longer one of the options. This seems really strange, and I'm getting sick and tired of everything going wrong! I've been trying this for days now, and I can't get the stupid thing to work! Thanks for the response though, that tutorial was much more simplified.

when you create a server make sure it's a non pure server or your skin won't work
