K, I'm making a map, and I have this balcony. There is a skybox (with the proper sky shader) around it. I have this balcony connected to a rather tall building. I don't want that building to appear to be floating in the sky. How can I fix this? I thought of changing the bottom of the skybox to a piece of ground, but then it would only appear to have THAT floating in the sky. :furious: Help! What should I do?
i don't know
Well that was a lot of help. :) lol
Do you have skyportal somewhere?
You should make a platform (or change texture of bottom sky) to some solid, normal surface, like metal or stone.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by a sky portal, but I will try changing the bottom to a solid surface. I did change the the bottom, but as I feared it appears to be floating. However I thought of a solution. I simply build a wall of some sort, to block the part of the sky that I do not want to see. I could add some more skyscrapers, to do that. The skybox is always drawn far away so if you have any buildings they'll look like they're floating. The only thing I can suggest is to use some trickery or take the time to make a bottom surface.
The best way is to make some buildings around your map, and use skyportal. In this skyportal make another buildings (very small). I will explain you this skyportal: It adds to sky everything skyportal sees. Skyportal is a room, without any doors, windows, just hollowed box outside of map. Inside it's covered with sky texture. In a middle of it is misc_skyportal. And you can put to 'skyportal room' buildings that would behave like sky.
I've made thread about it, and it's called Brushes in-sky
So... does your map works?
