The space battle look good and all, but they should've really been like homeworld and been in a truly 3d setting. Just watch next time you bring in the super SD or eclipse and it takes up almost the whole screen, and your ships move right through it to get around. At the very least they should've made it so you can move the cinema cam around. It always manages to stay on the most boring fights, like if you are attacking a asteroid with a few fighters it will focus on that instead of a massive battle with a super sd and tons of other ships. And they should've made so that it follows the ship you have selected.

I agree, the space battles are boring...but still this isn't homeworld it's star wars :P

I mean I'm not trying to say this should be like homeworld, but I think it would have really benefited if space battles were in true 3d. The maps in this 2d plane are way to small, and heaven forbid you bring a super SD in. You won't be able to see half the mini map. Also another problem is that there are only 2 spawn points, which is dumb. If I wanna play a 4 way battle it has to be 2v2 and the 2 must be the same race. If it was 3d like HW, then the maps could be way bigger, and allow for more spawn points, and open it up so that each player has there own station.

There is a fact. Homeworld was a good game but too confusing. Here instead things are more clear. What the game lacks is big big space maps,more cap and more units.More over the units should be more similar to the SW ones.Take the ISD for example.It's similar but not completely.The models made by EJ for it's homeworld mod Warlords are closer to the SW ones.More over having more Hard Points and rotating cannons would have made this game excellent and superior to any other around.Who knows EAW II will include those things.

They should have just expanded on the SW mod for Homeworld.

Picture this... They get the team behind that, allow them to expand their workbase. They get permission from Relic to use the Homeworld engine (with tweaks here and there), and turn a mod into a fully fledged game of it's own.

Then however comes the programming of the AI to take advantage of a three dimensional area to conduct battles - tell a Neb-B to attack an ISD, and have it maneuvre under and behind the ISD to avoid the full onsluaght of the ISD's weapons.

As for the ground based battles, it probably wouldn't have been that hard to convert full open 3D to limited 3D - that is to say, an environment not as open as space.

Off Topic: I think Homeworld2 was the first RTS to have fully targetable hardpoints on capital class (and above) vessels. Best of all, they were actually located along the 3D plane of the actual ship's models.

Sith, allot of those things you can mod in, Count_Dooku is making a Venator model with movable turrets.About the models, you have to realize this:Most of the Petro team is ex command and conquer developers, CandC didnt have 3d models!

Tiberian Sun and RA2 did have 3D rendered models. The ex Westwood members of Petroglyph also worked on Emperor: Battle for Dune, which used the sage engine before Generals did. They do have experience with 3D modelling for RTS games.

Have you forgot that westwood made emperor: battle for dune and c&c renegade? Both are 3D games (and looked very good) and both was made before c&c generals!! Argument that petro is unexperienced in 3D models make no sense for me (but maybe 3D artists of these games are not in petro...) And i agree with that if space battles in EaW could be made in full 3D like HW, this would be awesome.
