[color=black]The forum thread for the upcoming Star Trek MOD for the game: Star Wars: Empire at War.[/color] [color=black]This is the forum thread for the upcoming Star Trek MOD for the game: Star Wars: Empire at War. As mentioned on the EAW News page (located: [color=red]http://empireatwar.filefront.com/news/Star_Trek_Mod;20494[/color]) there are three possible ideas that I have, and it is up to the fans on which one of these is to be worked on.[/color]

  • Proposal (A): A MOD based around the Motion Picture era. This would have the Federation Empire facing off against the Klingon Empire as two unique sides (each with there own ships, personal and stations etc).

Federation Side:

  • Federation Star ships: Constitution Class Refit (Enterprise-A), Oberth Class (Grissom), Miranda Class (Reliant), Excelsior Class (Excelsior), Ambassador Class (Enterprise-C).

Klingon Side:

  • Klingon Star ships: D-7 Class, K' Tinga Class, B' Rel Class (BoP), K' Vort Class (BoP), D-12 Class (BoP).

[color=black]Proposal (B): A MOD based around the show:- Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (and the Dominion War). The two sides here would be quite large as there are three races each.[/color] [color=blue]Federation Alliance: Starfleet (United Federation of Planets), Klingons (The Klingon Empire), Romulans (The Romulan Star Empire).[/color] [color=blue][/color][color=green]Dominion Alliance: Jem' Hadar, Vorta & Founder (The Dominion), Breen (The Breen Regiment), Cardassians (The Cardassian Union).[/color] Federation Side:

  • Federation Star ships: Akira Class (Thunderchild), Sabre Class (Yeager), Steamrunner Class (Applanchia), Defiant Class (Defiant), Galaxy Class (Odyssey), Nebula Class (Melbourne).
  • Klingon Star ships: B' Rel Class (BoP), K' Vort Class (BoP), Vor' Cha Class.
  • Romulan Star ships: D' Deridex Class (Warbird).

Dominion Side:

  • Dominion Star ships: D Type Destroyer (Dominion Bug), W Type Warship (Dominion Warship), B Type Battleship (Dominion Dreadnought).
  • Cardassian Star ships: Galor Class, Hideki Class.
  • Breen: Gor Type Battleship (Breen Battleship).

Proposal (C): A MOD based around the Borg vs. Federation. [color=black]Federation Side[/color][color=black]:[/color]

  • [color=black]Federation Star ships[/color][color=black]: Akira Class (Thunderchild), Sabre Class (Yeager), Steamrunner Class (Appalachia), Defiant Class (Defiant), Norway Class (Budapest), Prometheus class (Prometheus), Sovereign class (Enterprise-E).[/color]

[color=black]Borg Side[/color][color=black]:[/color]

  • [color=black]Borg Star ships[/color][color=black]: Interceptor, Sphere, Cube, Tactical Cube, Diamond.[/color]

[color=black][color=black]Again, it is up to the Star Trek (and Star Wars) fans to decipher which of these would be more ideal. (Filling in the poll would be helpful as it would give me a general idea)![/color][/color][color=black] [color=black]Also, I am aware that there are some ships missing from certain areas (for example, during the DS9 Dominion Wars, there were: K' Tinga, Negh' Var, Shelly / Curry, Centaur, Excelsior & Miranda Class Vessels within it. I've left these out for the simple reason, the more ships, the more work (there can always be add-ons to MOD's of which include more ships.[/color] [color=black]When this MOD gets going, the ships that are in the list (depending on the choice) are the ones that will be worked on. Now, some of you may be thinking that’s very well having the star ships, but what about the ground units? Well, each race (or side) is going to have three types of ground troops, once for close-combat like fighting, one with weapons for killing off infantry, and another for killing off units. (These will come in squads). Also, Shuttles may be used alongside the ground troops to deliver vehicle assaults.[/color] [color=black]At present, I am just getting ideas (like ship specifications along with images and so on and so forth. What I will need (little more to the time) is a team; unfortunately, I am one for great ideas, yet no actual modelling skill. I have a few people in mind who may wish to help (one of which I’m pretty sure of) I will contact him in due course.[/color]

[indent][color=black]How you can help:[/color][/indent]

  • [color=black]Modellers (People who use those high spec programs for making models) - Milkshape 3D, 3D Studio Max etc...[/color]
  • [color=black]People who are good with Photoshop / paint shop pro. (Fortunately, I know my way around Photoshop CS pretty well (and I have a copy) so I can also put something in on this department.[/color]
  • [color=black]People who know programming code. (I would imagine EAW is going to be based around C++, still, there may be tricky parts that will need a programmer to help work out.[/color]
  • [color=black]Help with facts. One of my aims within this MOD is to have things as 'canon' as possible, therefore I will need people to do a bit of research from time to time.[/color]

I would say different idea, try look in the this forum look at my post, well here it is:

Unless these 'Different Ideas' relate to 'Star Trek' I wont be considering them! It's a Star Trek MOD in which i aim to make, nothing else! I didn't put this in my original post, but i'll say it now: Different Ideas - Star Trek related Only!

SSA. Whilst the concept is a good one, your going to find theres more involved than you thought possible. Aside from the space battle side of things (which is easy enough to sort out ships for), you are actually missing a highly important aspect: Ground based units. Perhaps you might consider this and rethink your planned layout. Unfortunately, Trek is space based combat suitable only as, and this is unless your willing to include events such as the Dominion War, it won't work.

Mind you. I'm not saying dont' try it. I'm just saying it may be more trouble than its worth. Oh and good luck with this, I think your going to need it!!

Indeed, it will be a struggle and something that will take a lot of work, a lot of paicent, and a lot of luck. Yet, i have mentioned that i would be having Shuttles (and for the DS9) Runabouts for ground units (along with troops with varied weapons). If needs be, for various big attacks i could ahve BoP's or Intrepid Class starships to be ground units (seeing as they are capable of atmospheric flight). I am not 100% sure if i am going to pull this off, but aim to give something (Star Trek related). If all fails i will simply work on once race at a time, then do another, then another etc etc! I don't plan on giving this up as i have done with the Apocalypse MOD for Armada II (some of which i still have of my computer) - much of what i could very well use for this project. PS: Thanks for the luck!

Rommel. When you consider that Wars is the perfect kind of universe for ground and space based. Trek, on the other hand, is far from ideal for ground based combats. Therefore I reckon the challenge involved in this kind of mod would be extremely difficult, but never impossible.

I would say it might be better to do this kind of project based around the dominion war simply because ground based combat was shown far more frequently then. Also from that you could get an idea of troop stylings (especially if you look at the federation hand based weapons from Insurrection and First Contact). Still should be interesting to say the least, and I'm certain theres plenty of already available ship models of suitable poly counts that could be used.

Hmmmm, an interesting thought could be that you could have all the known planets and perhaps even see if the game can handle specific race based missions. Therefore, you could have the following style of clashes:

- Klingon attempt to overrun Cardassian whilst the Dominion defend it. - DS9 could be an actual capturable "planet" and if its possible alter the ground based map to allow the stations insides to be used as a place for ground based combat. - Random elements, perhaps even the Borg attack on Earth from "First Contact".

The current problem is, none of the dev team have stated just how moddable the game is likely to be, jus tthat it is moddable.

If you try a motion picture one, please start with Wrath of Kahn and miss out TMP, because it's only after this that the films show some form of continuity. It could be good, very good, but you're restricted by the course of events at the same time. It's one for the die hards who respect what ST used to be. The Dominion idea looks to be the most flexable. Not only would this idea work, but it wouldn't necessarily leave you with a shortage of vessels. This is a well though out idea, since ground forces could probably be worked on, but it lacks the feel of ST because it follows the DS9 story, which in my opinion wasn't as strong as Voyager or TNG. Borg are by far the coolest enemies, and probably the most fun to face, but there isn't a lot you can do with them. Heroes would be the best of the suggestions, but it isn't really enough. Think of the ground forces for the Borg, and you'll see just how difficult this will be to achieve. Heavy infantry is fine, but there isn't much else to work upon. A Borg cube as a Death Star would be cool though. I keep getting drawn to each one in turn, with option 1 maybe slightly ahead of the rest, but still not sure enough to add to the poll. They're good ideas, but difficult to do in practice. Ground forces for all of them are going to require some serious research, and even then there will have to be a good deal of guesswork and original concepts for 1 and 3. If I'm honest, go with what you feel is the most close to your own heart. After all, it's you who will have to stick by it through dire straights, it needs to be something you're least likely to give up on. Btw, the ideas you suggest are probably the best ideas regarding the ST history, there isn't a lot else to work upon. Mirror universe maybe, something Voyager related like species 8472 or something at the time of TOS? Problem is any other suggestions ST wise aren't going to quite have the same power and gameplay as the ones you've suggested.

The DS9 idea sounds pretty good MAP (about having them fighting on the station) although there is a small downfall to this. I didn't make this part clear about the MOD, i'm not erasing the Star Wars sides, i'm simply trying to add two Star Trek sides to the game. This, unless i want the snow walkers walking around DS9 being chaced by a fleet of X-Wings... You get where i am going with this. Nonetheless, the idea was good (depending on the modding) this could always be incorperated so that infrantry only are aloud in a specific mission. Anyhow, i have been looking at images, forums, website etc in relation to this game, and, well, it's going to be one hell of a job to get this MOD finished (yet alone start it). There is (as many of you especially MAP gathered) there is a lot that i didn't take into consideration. I'm not calling the MOD off, and no matter what happens, i will be giving something to the EAW community (if this Star Trek idea doesn't work, i have another idea for a MOD - that might i add would fit in perfectly). I'm going to wait for the Demo (i assume / hope that there will be one) and i will decide on that wheather or not to continue on this idea. If i do however decide that this is to be way to advance for me, i do hope that someone (maybe from the A2 / BC or SFC3 community will be up for the position of creating a Star Trek MOD for this game). Anyhow, i doubt i'll be seen in this thread again until the release of the Demo (unless there are questions to be answered in which case fire away). PS: I don't want anyone putting there hopes down just yet!

Simply because i am more of a Star Trek fan. Star Wars is good, and the game alike looks to be stunning, it would be nice to see something Star Trek for the game. Like Armada / Armada II (just better gameplay plus graphics).
