I wonder how the buildings in this game will be. Anyone have an idea?
Since this game is outside of your 'normal' RTS, and they said it would focus more on comabt and less on resources, I believe the structures you get depend on the scenario.
I've heard that conquering planets provides credits and I've also read that one can build buildings both on the ground and in space. In the one of the many previews, they write that you build up your army on the ground and you're creating your fleet at the giant shipyards, orbiting the planet.
Sounds pretty cool.
The building will be mostly turrets, powerplants and shield generators, IMO... Looks like the space station is there, too. It all depends on how new units will be recruited. If they are brought from space and/or bases far away from the map, then there will be few buildings, all of which would serve a specific strategic purpose. If new units can be recruited in, say, barracks, then there will be more buildings to produce more types of soldiers and vehicles, as well as buildings that will power the production. I doubt we will build the bases ourselves, they look pretty much pre-made... But it's really hard to tell at this point.
I do hope this is one thing they stick to the RTS mould with. Just aquiring units from past conquests seems to focus much too much on the battles side of things. Sure, I know this is what they want, but part of the fun of the genre is training/building your own units during battle. However, I do think it is possible that you build your units on the planet as usual, and the E3 video of ships deployment are only showing the units left over from the previous battle being inserted into the fray. If this is the case, we may well see the classic system (as far as buildings are concerned) applied. Ie: Barracks, Machine Yard, Research Lab. What I hope there isn't, is some form of accomodation to increase the pop cap. I think this concept has had its day. The thing that offsets this idea though is that unfortunatly, LoneWolfz0r's right. The ground structures and baseplates we've seen so far all look like they've been planted there prior to battle, and have very little means of upgrading. Better hold out hope though, there's plenty of time left until the release. As far as the space bases are concerned, I've only seen the one station, suggesting that any upgrades (tie fighter bays etc) are constructed as an extention to it, making one huge station, with various parts. Could be fine, but I may have issues with larger ships being constructed. This is all just speculation from my observations, and is unlikely to be right in the slightest. So yet again, it's all up to the wait and see approach.
I would rather they be prebuilt. I don't think the game will be as great if you had to constantly build the buildings on each planet you conquer. Maybe if it was more automated like, designate the planet as productive or military. Then all you have to do is select that planet and select what you want built.
I've heard about cantinas. perhaps one can recruit bounty hunters. And maybe there'll be cities on the different planets. Buildings may also be special for particular mission. for example, the first rebel mission is to steal the x-wing prototype from imperial hands. The storage facility here is maybe a special landing pad. :uhm:
Why don't you check the site: http://www.lucasarts.com/games/swempireatwar/indexFlash.html#GameInfo.Features Check the screenshots for pics of buildings...
Hmmmm... It reads here: • Construct ground and space structures, including space stations, factories and ion cannons. BUT these buildings are propably built on the Galacting Map, and will not be present in the "fighting" part of the game... As for the bases on the screenshots... They MAY be built by us, but they might as well be pre-made and whether we could use them or not, will remain a mystery until LucasArts actually gives us some details about this game... All we hear now is how awesome the game will be.
