I would just like to bring to attention something that has annoyed me for the past few months while playing Medal of Honor. The game has quite a few innaccuracies in the weapons, particularly the Garand. Having an un-modded game, the rifle takes 3 shots to kill, while the 98K takes only one. Why is this? The 30-06 M2 Ball ammuntion used by US forces during WW2 and for which the Garand is chambered is actually more powerful than the 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser) cartridge used by the German army. The 30-06 M2 round has a muzzle velocity of 2800 feet per second and an energy rating of almost 3000 foot pounds at the muzzle. I don't know a man alive that could stand up to that, but the Germans must be pretty well built in MOH because they can stand up to 3 shots, often with little more than a grunt and a slight cramp where the bullet hit. Perhaps this was done because the Garand has the capability to fire very quickly, and the creators thought that would be unfair, but if they wanted to be fair, why did they make the STG44 so powerful and accurate? Becuase it was like that in real life, and so was the Garand. Anyways, I'd like to hear every one elses' opinion on this matter and I appriciate you responding. Thank you.

you could try to improve your aim by headshot.....

also garand is semi auto as kar98 is bolt action...

I can kill my enemy with a garand in 1 shot, why cant you?

Indeed, I beleive you are right. It's not that I can't hit someone in the head, it's just that I wonder why I have to when the Garand should kill with a shot to the chest.

I am a historian. I also am a WWII weapons expert. The Kar98 is bolt action.

But it is high powered. The M1 loading system decreases the power. See, It's all in the Knoledge!:deal:

Comrade, the Garand's gas system had nothing whatsoever to do with its power. There is a gas port, about 2 milimeters in diameter 1 inch from the muzzle of the rifle that siphons off gas into the gas cylinder. Now you tell me that this little gas port can significantly siphon off enough of the Garand's 50,000 psi chamber pressure to actually affect the ballistics. Regardless whether or not you're a historian does not matter in the world of ballistics. I'm not mocking you or trying to sound like a smart-ass, only telling you the truth. The Garand's bullet is long out of the muzzle before the gas in the gas chamber even expands enough to move the operating rod that uncamms the bolt. So I am saying that the Garand's ballistics are superior to the Mauser's, even though the Mauser is indeed a high power rifle. So what does that tell you about the Garand? And the ballistics are in no way affected by the gas operating system. I agree with the earlier post that in Medal of Honor, the Garand would be cheap if it were as powerful as it is in real life. Also, the tactic of rapid-firing the Garand as used by many players in the game would never work in real life. The muzzle-climb is substantial, even with one shot, and the kick is enough to knock you off balance when shooting fast, so all that would accomplish is a waste of ammunition. You can't hit anything with a Garand when you rapid-fire it, I know, I've tried. They were designed for soldiers to take aimed shots, the reason it is semi automatic is because it eliminates the need to lose the sight picture as one does when working the bolt on a bolt action rifle.

We got a mini Killor here :p

If hit in the right place, it only takes one shot to kill.

There of course is a VERY simple way to maintain the realism of what Evil Empire just said.. No Auto-Center mod. I love it anyway, but with it, you can't accurately rapid fire the M1 like you can right now.

ya, i honestly feel that Call of Duty did a better job at representing the M1 then Medal of Honor did, but I haven't played breakthrough yet...
