Have you noticed how 80s and early 90s sitcoms suck. most of them are centered around a caring family (with an exception of Married Witch Children). kids do what they wouldn't do (like go to a party and there is no beer and nobody stays after 11), and every episode ends with a lesson.

That's why ALF was that much more awesome. He came from a planet named 'Melmac' and he eats cats.

Blackadder? Only Fools & Horses? The Young Ones? One Foot in the Grave? Father Ted? Etc, etc, etc...

Might have been crap where you were, but the 80s/90s were some of the best years of all time for sitcoms over here.

i was referring to american sitcoms because the Croatian tv networks are mostly airing them. Blackadder was a great show. Only Fools & Horses is one of the best shows ever (in my opinion). Don't know about others you mentioned.

Alf was also a good show. too bad they decided to air Family Matters instead.

American sitcoms? There's your problem right there - you're looking for water in the desert! It's not just the 80s and 90s, but the 60s, the 70s and the 00s as well. Occasionally a gem comes out of there, but mostly it's just tripe conceived of by network executives in a twenty minute brainstorming session.

Canada is part of North America... so it sort of counts. But it's not your typical sitcom either.

Most American Sitcoms suck, even today.

Local TV used to show British comedies all Sunday nights and i liked many of them.

Are You Being Served? - loved it Fawlty Towers - mostly loved it Bless Me Father - loved it Black Adder - didnt see very much of it, liked what I saw Dads Army - Didnt see much but liked what I saw Mr.Bean - some were good, some sucked Absolutely Fabulous - Some were good, some sucked Red Dwarf - loved it Benny Hill - loved it

There are a few standouts in a sea of crap

Im trying to think of the ones I actually liked. Not sure what years tehy were on, only remember watching them.

Family Ties Cheers Frazier Home Improvements Ray Friends Seinfeld Third Rock From The Sun Mork and Mindy Mad About You WKRP In Cinncinati - The Thanksgiving Turkey Drop episode is still a classic. "As god as my witness I thought turkeys could fly!" YouTube - WKRP Turkey Drop

Here is a list of a number of sitcoms The Top Ten Sitcoms of All Time - Top Ten List
