I'm just curious to see what you're opinions are regarding crossovers of the sci fi kind; i.e., Star Trek/Star Wars.

Laser immunity theory aside (lets just make them all plasma based weapons for convenience....), I can think of at least a few plausible and possibly awesome story lines involving Star Trek and Stargate.

I kind of get the idea that the general feeling toward these kind of crossovers on the Internet is a 'no no'; i.e. it shouldn't be attempted.

Is that the Internet, or just these forums, or is that just not true?

I'm not a fan of fan fiction so I don't read up on it.

I was just curious about your opinions; could it ever work in a movie, maybe if there was an awesome script writer and an awesome director?

A Marvel and DC crossover would be the only thing I can really think of that would be kind of cool.

I think certain crossovers have great potential, but only if they're carried out correctly. I mean, look at Aliens versus Predator - the books rocked, the games rocked, but the films? The films absolutely sucked, and I don't think it has anything to do with the material involved but rather a complete void of decent producers, writers, directors, and actors.

So please, movie industry - if you're going to try and combine our favourite franchises, do it well or not at all!

That said, Star Trek versus Star Wars would be an exceptionally bad idea, as would Star Trek versus Stargate, or Star Wars versus Battlestar Galactica, or Babylon 5 versus Farscape, etc, etc, etc. Unlike Aliens versus Predator, or Mavel versus DC as mentioned above, these particular universes are not compatible with each other. Each one has its own seperate rulebook regarding physics and how stuff works, and each one has a virulent fanbase just begging for a reason to kill the others.

I mean, how do you decide whether a Peacekeeper Command Carrier could defeat an Imperial Star Destroyer? Would a Sovereign-class starship come up trumps against a Nova-class dreadnought? How would a Battlestar fare against a Goa'uld Ha'tak? You'd end up with a series of draws, as the producers desperately tried to avoid pissing off each individual fanbase, each of which being absolutely certain that their favourite ship would win, and it'd be shit.

I like Sci-fi crossovers. Personally, I would like to see a Star Trek/Battlestar Galactica crossover. That would be interesting.

I see what you mean, but I don't consider myself a fanboy of either series, I like them all pretty well equally; I mean I've never been able to decide if I like Star Trek or Star Wars more. Star Trek has the Federation and their awesome starships, Star Wars is very fantastical and has lightsabers and force powers. And Stargate....Teal'c, Ronan, Rodney, Shepard, the Gate itself, how can you choose?! =p Each story has elements I love.

While there is the "laser immunity theory," I think if some minor changes were made, like making the weapons all plasma based, would make things much easier in terms of comparison.

As for who would win, star destroyers could clearly crush the Enterprise E if they decided to ram her simply due to their shear mass difference, especially the Super Star Destroyers. And again, thanks to shear mass, I think I Ha'tak could simply ram a Soverign class, it probably doesn't have enough torpedoes to do much damage.

I think you're right that Star Trek and Star Wars are completely incompatible universes, which is why I didn't mentio it in my OP. However, I think Star Trek and Stargate are more compatible, as combatibility goes anyways, IMO....

Still, the prospect is just too irresistable to me....=p
