It had/has a dedicated fanbase, but the execs at Fox probably thought that the ratings figures weren't high enough to keep it going, so they yanked it.

Then Wikipedia says that since the episodes were played out of order (The Train Job was aired before Serenity) the plot was harder to follow.

A lot of the time, from what I've seen, sci-fi shows don't really last too long (unless it has some sort of hook to attract a wider range, like Star Trek). And the fact that it was such a strange show (genre-wise, a sci-fi show that made hot, sweaty love to a western and had a child) didn't help its chances much with non-sci-fi geeks.

Just my thoughts, anyway.

I thought the movie was great the series was average. Some ep's were great but others were crap.

I think it's cool because it's sci-fi but with wild west tones to it. That made it original, not just a clone of a previous series or idea.

Firefly was brilliant. I'll even go so far as to claim that its fanbase is the most dedicated (deranged?) ever. Not since Star Trek had a cancelled sci-fi series been made into a movie, and even the ST franchise had three seasons to its credit, and it took over a decade before TMP was considered.

Firefly's ratings weren't even that bad; Fox's management was. At the time, they thought that action-oriented series is where they needed to take the network (this is also why they forced "The Train Job" to air first--they thought that "Serenity" was too boring for a pilot). Obviously, somebody miscalculated.

I hope that sorry SOB lost his job.

I thought it was very interesting because for one thing, Star Trek was originally pitched as a "Space Western", but this lived far more up to that particular genre (if that even is a genre). I thought it was one of the most unique sci fis I've seen, and definately had many times when it went exactly against what has done 1000 times over. Therefore, great stuff in my book.

:adore: :adore: Firefly & Senerity :adore: :adore:

The movie was awsome. I found that the series was really good the whole western, asian, star wars combo was sweet (and in some parts funny) I hope that the series is brought back to life.

A series that deserved to be allowed to grow, i thought it was awesome and serenity was a nice way to finish it if it really is to be buried by fox. I loved the comedy, the idea of it all and the awesome characters. Fox have got some real jackass' at the top of there company this isn't the first kick-ass show to be shot down by them and probably not the last...
