...though a V and a VI will be up to us.

In other news, Johnston confirmed that "Jurassic Park IV" is a go and that they are crafting it as the start of a new trilogy (Johnston directed 2001’s "Jurassic Park III"):

You said that there was no way to get people back on the island for a fourth time and have it make sense, but that 2001 was the last installment and we’re due.

Johnston: Well, there is going to be a Jurassic Park IV. And it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen. It breaks away from the first three—it’s essentially the beginning of the second Jurassic Park trilogy. It’s going to be done in a completely different way. That’s pretty much all I can tell you.

A second trilogy?

Johnston: If you think of the first three as a trilogy, number four would be the beginning of a second trilogy.

That’s big. So not to lock you in, but there’s a possibility there might be a total of six films?

Johnston: Well, you never know. If they keep working—and if audiences keep going to them—there’s no reason why there wouldn’t be. We just want to make them justified in their own right. We don’t want to make sequel after sequel just because there’s a market for it. We want to tell different, interesting stories. You don’t want to just sell hamburger.

Sci-Fi Movies Wednesday: Avatar, Captain America, Dune, Green Lantern, Jurassic Park IV, Thor, Tron Legacy + more | TrekMovie.com I for one am already looking forward to this. I can't wait to see what he does with this.

These films do not need sequels. They will ruin the originals.

Sorry to be pessimistic.

I always enjoyed watching the Jurassic Park movies when I was younger and I still do. More movies = more fun but I think with the huge gap of time between the 3rd and the supposedly 4th, the series would not fit together all that great. It would look sorta look like the Star Wars movies (or the Indiana Jones movies for that matter), don't get me wrong, the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies are my favorites but its easy to see that the new movies don't fit together with the old ones as well. It sorta breaks that classic boundary for older movies, its better just to leave them alone.

I think it would be better for them to start something similar but reviving the Jurassic Park movies with another sequel and with a boost in graphics I just don't think it'll turn out as nicely with the previous movies behind it.

How can they really ruin the originals? The first one will always be good, no matter how many sequels they release.

Personally, I just want to see more Velociraptors being badass. I don't mind the fact that they are likely anatomically incorrect either. Chalk it up to a mistake in the cloning process.

Sounds a bit as if they are planning a reboot.

Hopefully it'll have a somewhat decent storyline, which most excessive sequels tend to lack.

I'm thinking, and hoping, it'll be a sort of return to Jurassic Park deal. It's 25 years later and a small plane crash lands on the island. Everyone needs to work together to survive and all that jazz. Good setup for both awesome dinosaurs and some conflict between the characters, which is all you really need. You don't necessarily have to have some overarching plot, it just needs to be about survival. Though I'm sure good writers could actually develop a pretty good plot to work with a dinosaur filled island.

Or alternatively have the island transported back in time to the Middle Ages and the dinosaurs are tamed and used as weapons of war.

Whichever.
