Because CAPTAIN, JEAN-LUC PICARD CARD CARD...

I feel like Data's weirdness is growing on me. Not long to go now.

I'm currently watching TNG and only made it to the 6th season so far, so I'll wait a bit before watching Picard. Hopefully they kept the people who are responsible for Discovery far away from this one.

They've just announced Season 2 and Season 1 isn't even out yet.

I'm so ready for this. Lots of chatter about people worrying it will stray too much from the perfect Roddenberry utopia, but I think Trek works best when it's pushing the limits and evolving with our own current affairs.

Well, without darkness, how would you recognise the light etc. etc.

But this is why I think DS9 worked so well.

That actually is why Enterprise is my favourite Star Trek. Instead of the perfect utopia, it presented space the way it would be in the real world, xenophobic, everyone wanting to kill you. Better yet, it was Top Gun meets M*A*S*H, the proper military Star Trek show we had been needing for years.

Well, all the way until the Xindi stuff....That was when the show became weird, and I stopped really caring....

I get the hate against the xindi line, but I enjoyed it. Say what you will about it, though, it was definitely a reflection of the current events at the time!

It represented something in the real world?

Arguably. One of the big criticisms against the show at the time was that Archer was sort of a "George Bush in space" and that the Xindi story was a heavy-handed parallel to the 9/11 attacks.

How odd. I clearly remember that day, but I never saw anything in ENT that made me think of Bush or 9/11. I always saw ENT as M*A*S*H meets Top Gun.
