For the Emperor! Knights of Caliban!

the big-screen adaptation of Mass Effect has resurfaced a year and a half after reports of its existence appeared. Last week, Mass Effect 2 project director Casey Hudson told MTV Movies that, "Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture about Mass Effect."
Appearing to contradict a 2008 Variety report (linked above), Hudson made it sound as if any deal to license a Mass Effect film production was a ways off. "We're just looking at our options there but waiting to make sure we have something really right before we do it," he said. "The most important thing for us is…we don't just want to see a movie get made. We want to see a great movie get made, if it's going to get done at all."
I think the movie would break Bio-ware, lets face it Games to movies usally ends up a massive fail.
What do you guys think?

The books are good, so a movie would have an equal chance of being good as long as it was done right and had a good director. Game->movie adaptations are usually bad because they're just focusing on being a cash cow. That's not really the way BioWare rolls.
I question the need for it really (besides money =p), since Mass Effect is pretty cinematic already. I'd have more fun just replaying the game than watching a movie of the same plot sans player input, so unless it was a totally different story set in the same universe I doubt I'd see it.

You're right, they like to fill their products with bugs and glitches. The story could make a good movie though, I wonder where else I've seen movies with aliens/humans going to different planets throughout the galaxy.

It all depends on the fact that it might actually be good. Dungeon Siege's story was nowhere near up to par for a movie, yet they made one. I enjoyed the Hitman movie, so not all of them were bad.
Mass Effect's story is a fantastic story to make a movie off of. It just can't deal with Shepard in any way, except maybe as a cameo.
I'm undecided on this one, on one hand I can see this being a great movie because Mass Effect already plays like I'm part of a movie, that I control anyway. But, I'm concerned with how Hollywood would change it, since for the last few years they've only known about three genres action, thriller, and "drama"
I wouldn't mind if there was a movie that took place in the universe and not necessarily about Shepard
Yea the same Universe would be fine for me.
A lead character called John Shepard might annoy Stargate Atlantis fans slightly lol
I can't see how this would work.
The excitement and charm of the game comes from the player's own decisions, which shape the course of the game. You can't possibly replicate that in a big screen movie. You'd need to do something interactive, but... Mass Effect is already very cinematic as it is. You might as well just play the game instead.
