The 'canon' path for Mass Effect 1 was set in stone by Mass Effect 2, so any movie would have to be based off that, as to not stray too far from the story. A thing to keep in mind is that the game is far too open, with far too many different personalities essential to the story. I doubt any director would be able to properly capture the feeling of the Citadel, the tropical Virmire, or the cold Noveria without sacrificing some of the story or general feel of the movie.

Yes, movies based off games tend to be unpopular, as they either portray the protagonist in a different light than what the fans are used to, or they completely cancel out the original story by creating their own(Resident Evil, Doom, etc). But I doubt there's any possibility of such a movie happening any time soon. Mass Effect has already been confirmed a trilogy, so they'd have to wait until after the last game.

Also;

KotakuBioWare's Casey Hudson, the project director for Mass Effect 2, acknowledged a "tremendous amount of interest" from Hollywood in a Mass Effect film but vows such a movie, if done, will be done right or not at all. "Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture about 'Mass Effect,'" Hudson told the MTV Movies Blog. "The most important thing for us is, we don't just want to see a movie get made. We want to see a great movie get made, if it's going to get done at all." Way back in the middle of 2008, Avi Arad, best known for several successful (and some less so) comic-book adaptations, optioned the rights to a Mass Effect film. But there has been no news of such a project since then. This may be deliberate. Hudson's comments make it apparent that BioWare isn't in a hurry and wants to be sure the film has a story worthy of this franchise. "We're just looking at our options there, but waiting to make sure we have something really right before we do it," he told MTV Movies.

bud389;5241477I just loves how he assumes that all the fans hate the movie when he himself has no fucking proof either, except for what non-fan critics have to say. Heres his arguement: "HEY, HOW DO YOU KNOW ALL THE FANS LIKED IT? YOU DONT KNOW! SO THERE FOR, THEY ALL HATE IT!" "Well, i'm a fan, i have many friends who are fans, and ontop of that it gained a top box office score, so i'm guessing alot of fans went to go see it." In fact, alot of fans are saying that the new MK reboot movie thats in the works is going to be a failure and are saying "Why does there need to be a reboot? The 1995 movie was fine". But, you know, since apparently "logic" has rule over "facts" i guess he's right. Here is a quote from someone who went to go see the movie in theaters upon release: "I was massive fan of the games and this movie at the time was the best possible version of the game that could ever be made, a dream come true for many including myself. It totally surpassed expectations (after the dreadful Street Fighter), and the whole theatre was loving it! I'll never forget the Scorpion VS Cage fight, people were cheering and shouting, and when Scorpion did his fatality the whole cinema whooped, and at the end of the fight people started clapping! People were just pumped for it, throught the whole film my audience were extatic and right at the end everyone started to clap but then they stopped and cheered even HARDER becuase of Shao Khan's appearance! An epic surprise ending! I Came out of the theatre so happy, it was the greatest thing that could happen to a kid and i'll never forget it! " So please, shut the fuck up about shit you have no fucking clue about.

You said you interviewed a large amount of people about what they thought about the movie. As if you have these professional credentials. You can't even provide us with proof of this "survey" thing you claim to have administered.

The most you told us was that the following people liked the movie:

Obviously you didn't conduct any sort of poll/survey or else you wouldn't have such obscure sources.

So YOU shut the fuck up.

Its probably going to suck, maybe not action wise, but story wise is most likely going to fall flat on its face. I mean you won't be able to wooh anyone who has already played the game (which will probably be a large portion of the people going to watch the movie), and if they come up with a different story, then they are following the path of Star Wars.

They've got plenty of material they can pull from already. I think a film revolving around the discovering of the Mass Relays and the First Contact War would be really neat. They've already got some back story on that; Shanxi, for instance.

A director who does his homework might look into this however i think we will probably do a rehash of Shepard vs Reapers IN 3D that will turn into another failed video game/movie adaption. Hopefully Bioware will try to work with the producer and or director to try to steer the movie into the right direction - and hopefully they will liston to the fans as well.

I would rather see a video-game movie that pleases a general audience rather than just the fans as it will break some ground for good video game adaptation.

I've never seen a good movie based on a video game, why would this be different? Come to think of it though, I haven't seen a good movie in quite a while either.

[QUOTE=gravy666;5242791] So YOU shut the fuck up.

Both of you; be civil. There's absolutely no reason to get so worked up about something as trivial as this. Critics will be critics, they're not in their line of work to please people, but to bring out facts. They'll say what they want, and they don't care whether you agree with them or not.

If you're unable to provide a source to back up claims, at the very least say so.

Junk angel;5226512To be honest I've always hated adaptions of stuff where you can choose what to be. I'm already pretty peeved by a visible Shepard on the covers :P

Shepard should always be obscured by the shadows, have on the N7 helmet, or something, instead of a generic Shepard. I've gotten so used to my Shepard that I can't even really watch vids with the generic Shepard speaking.

Unless they're gonna have a radical change in movie-industry? No cinema antics for Mass Effect movies. Sell only discs that make it an interactive DVD.

Oh.

Wait.

Mass Effect is already pretty much a movie game, plus you get to do your own action and combat. Sorry still no dice on a proper Mass Effect movie, the game itself has elements of a movie already. It symbolizes the start of MOVIE GAMES, a new category!
