Donnie Darko Se7en The Matrix Fight Club Ginger Snaps (first great horror movie made since the early 80s) Lord Of The Rings trilogy (yes, it IS, so you can stop bitching before you start) That's all I can think of right now that I would define as modern-day classic films. There are more, but I've gone blank.

that is why i like foreign films.is not that there are no bad foreign films, there are plenty. but it seems that foreign filmmakers take more risks with story and cinematography and that spawns some true gems. american films is the same movie "event" thing rehashed over and over . a movie going from theatre to DVD in 3 months is not a good sign and that is the trend with even the biggest film. canned trilogys are not good either , you are suposed to make a sequel only if your original is widely succesfull . not that long ago; the 80's and 90's, it took a couple of years for a movie to video.
