It's not really based on a 'true story'... The original movie used the serial killer 'Ed Gein' as a basis for the Leatherface character. Much the same way that 'Silence Of The Lambs' did with 'Buffalo Bill'... The events themselves, portrayed in the film, are complete fiction. Roarthealmighty: If subtitles aren't a problem for you then check out the Japanese movie 'Ju-On: The Grudge,' if subtitles are a problem then the US remake will be out soon as well... The remake is merely called 'The Grudge' and stars Sarah Michelle Gellar. I have some hope for it as it's also directed by the same guy, Takashi Shimizu, and is still set in Japan, the trailer looks pretty good also.
try the ring, its not extremely scary but it will make you think alittle, its not too bad but in my view i dont really like any scary movies, not that im to afraid, just because they never seem to have a good story.
the ring is good, but the jap. version is much better
The little footage on the police officer in TCM -while hes searching the house is true...or so I hear.
