So what's up with Silent hill? I mean is the girl that was burned alive the only evil entity there? I can't imagine she is, because that would end all the games/movie idea's right there. Yet in the movie she seems to be the only one pulling the strings..
the movies sucked compaired to the games! it really didnt follow it at all, expecially at the end of the movie. can anyone explain it to me? like was she dead all along or something?
Here's my theory on Silent Hill to respond to what the last two people said:
First off keep in mind that this is coming from someone who hasnt played any of the games past demos of SH3 and SH4 and has seen the movie twice, but looked up the whole "it-ness" of Silent Hill on wikipedia...
I'm thinking that since every SH game contains different characters with different problems and skeletons in their closet that SH acts as a sort of purgatory...in that people who need to either be punished for what they have done or need to battle their demons are then drawn to SH to face their worst nightmares (like in SH2 where the husband confronts his emotions about him being responsible for his wife's death etc).
The SH that the people are in when they see the monsters and what not is not the REAL SH but rather a certain "otherworld" that they've been drawn into. SH is probably only able to bring people in and have demons b/c of what we saw in the movie and the first game (i.e. the coal fire, religious nuts, and witches, etc) - meaning that with or without Alessa at the helm of the demon hordes there will always be a certain evil lurking about the "otherworld".
I'm not too sure if by overcoming the evil if the people or person are then returned to the real world...like as what happens in the movie (i.e. Rose and Sharron are still stuck in the "otherworld" even tho the evil has been purged and they've returned home).
So - I dont know...those are my theories involving what SH is all about but if anyone has ever played the games or knows anything else please shed some light on this will you?
In any case the SH series, when properly looked into, has a pretty good thriller/horror plot and basis to run on and I'm frankly not surprised that the games have such strong "under the radar" fan bases and I'm not surprised that they're actually going to make another film soon to follow up the 2006 release.
Is it just me or does this just look outright cheesy:
This is how the American (as far as I know) DVD front cover looks....despite it's very video gamey-ness I still think it deserves a cover that more represents the darkness and mysteriousness of Silent Hill and what the film is about.
