Couldn’t find another thread on the film (that or the search function is crap) so I thought I’d make one. Anyway, on to the point… Just saw Sin City last night (don't worry, no spoilers) and what do I think? Well, I can quite honestly say I think it is the best film I have seen this year. Constantine, Star Wars Ep III, Kingdom of Heaven and Hitch Hikers Guide to The Galaxy have nothing on this film. I’d even go far as to say its better than Der Untergang, although only slightly as I love that film too. Sin City is based on the comics done by Frank Miller (co-directed with Robert Rodriguez), which I unfortunately haven’t read but luckily, the movie is (as far as I know) basically just the comic series in film form, right down to the same dialogue used. I just loved the film noir look and atmosphere. Everyone and everything is just so dark and sinister. How it was made was just fantastic, I know most (if not all) of the settings are fake, but there is something about it that makes it work so well, just has that great comic book-esc feeling. All of the main characters in the film are very cool although some are disturbingly psychotic at times. Favourites would be Marv, Dwight and Hartigan. Oh, can’t forget Nancy either, mmm Jessica Alba. I thought the fact that the film was mostly black and white except certain objects (or people) which had parts in color (hair, clothes, lights etc.) would be kind of odd and wouldn’t work but it did. Final thought, the acting is quite superb but with an all star cast, you can’t really expect any less. Anyone else seen it? Opinions?

i think the best word to describe this film would be 'cool'. cool and nasty. it has some pretty nasty scenes, but it is a great film with some great characters (and some nice chicks, that's for sure...).

i didn't know the originals when i saw it, so it took me some momenets of amazement before i got the cartoon concept

I agree, Sin City is the best movie I've seen all year. It had it all: gore, violence, nudity, more violence, bloody death, and best of all, hookers with guns. Great movie.

Awesome film! I loved it, and I read some of the comics awhile ago. Kevin scares me.

Really, really well done, it is. My only gripe with it is Jessica Alba - seeing Dark Angel has made me develop a strong dislike of her, heh. Other than that, though, it's quite excellent.

Indeed, the fountains, splatters and sprays of blood were all white or another bright color, as though it was flourescent paint instead. It was unexpected but allowed for much more uncensored violence, perhaps without protests from violent movie critics (I could be very wrong on that speculation; it is just an impression I gathered).

I have enjoyed all of the films that I have seen with Bruce Willis (even Hostage!) so I had to go see this one. I loved it! Only thing that I didn't like was the woman behind me who kept freaking out whenever anything violent happened.
