I'm sure you have all seen the trailer by now. If not:

Spoiler: Show

So what is everyone's thoughts and opinions on this? What do you think the plot is about? I have heard lots of speculation but nothing susbstantial (in my opnion)

That I believe JJ Abrams was a good choice to helm this project as he himself is an SW fan. So far everything looks cool from what little we've seen. Without anything allowing us to get a glimpse of the story, it's hard to tell where this movie will go at the moment. So I'm not at liberty to speculate anything. The only thing I do see is that the Stormtroopers land on Tatooine, which may have some relation to the characters we've seen on that planet.

Meh, I'll watch it. JJ has done pretty good rebooting Trek, so maybe will bring new life to the SW films.

I like the teaser. It tells you that the movie will be for fans of the old movies. It shows you the goodies you'd expect to see. It also has the sort of details a hardcore fan would expect - like the sounds of an Imperial recon drone doing something nasty off-screen.

As for the story - there are a million options and I don't think Abrams is going to ignore that opportunity by restricting himself to established fan fiction.

The movie plays quite a while after the battle of Endor, obviously, so that gives even more room as he can deal with many of the things that need to happen afterwards (dealing with the remnants of the Empire, establishing a new Republic etc.) for the setting to make sense in the intro.

I'd expect some kind of cease fire between factions of the Empire that managed to stick together and the new Republic which starts to fall apart when the Sith come out of hiding. But that's just a guess.

Why Stormtroopers would invade Tatooine, of all places, I do not know. Maybe because it is the traditional hiding place for your young soon-to-be Jedi kids. But then again, who cares if you have a squadron of X-Wings flying furrows into some lake.

I'm sort of confused as to what they consider canon and non-canon as now.

Why haven't they discontinued 'The Old republic' if that's outside of the movies and therefore not canon?

What about about 'Star Zombies' which was basically the premise of a book known by the title 'Death Troopers' which they so happily stuffed into some free strategy mobile game (don't remember but there was an article on gamespot)?

Me being a Kyle Katarn fanboy, I just hate the fact that he doesn't exist anymore, whereas the dumbest, most unfitting and shoehorned thing such as 'Star Undead' (discounting all the force ghosts) still exists. Seriously, who the fuck in such an advanced universe where some men are capable of becoming physical gods would fall to fucking zombies other than some dumbass Bantha herder/Moisture farmer?

Because they're trying to make money off it? =p

Really? Who'da thought of that?

I'm not really the biggest Star Wars buff but how can keeping parts of the 'non-canon' universe while simultaneously calling everything outside of the movies and those kiddy clone wars and rebels cartoons really not lead to any major inconsistency that they are not going to have to retcon later and be called out on any/all of it?

Seriously, if they are going to do that, give me my Kyle back.
