Well, SG:A finally starts here in Australia on sunday, and the ads i've seen for it seem a little dissapointing - they tell nothing about it except that it's atlantis. Anyway, how is it for those who have the privilege of seeing it when it's on in the US, and is it as good as SG1 was?

Honestly I think its a great show. I still have SG-1 as my favorite but Atlantis is really good. The first few episodes may seem a bit slow but it will pick up as the season moves on.

It's good for a sci-fi fan, but the acting isn't near SG1 quality from what I've seen. It is improving a little.

Channel 7 show stargate here and i'm sure they will stuff it up, they still haven't shown the SG1 episode " Prometheus Unbound" because it talks about atlantis because they wanted to show it just before atlantis but they never did.

Stargate the movie and SG-1 are not the same, they are 2 different story lines based on the same thing, everything down the the look of the ga'uold on are different... which is why i was really pissed when i saw SG-1 when it came out, i was hoping that it would be along with the movie... even the creators of the movie think SG-1 is crap... lol

I like both Stargate the movie and SG-1 (the movie much more, though). Yes SG-1 took a completely different take to the movie, but considering Stargate was made so memorable by fantastic imagery, they couldn't really extend the premise with a tv show's budget. Just completely dissociate the two in your mind, there's no point comparing. You'll look at SG-1 in a much better light as a consequence. Atlantis though.... I'm not sold. It has all the right ingredients, they just don't seem to mix into a satisfying whole, I can't put my finger on the exact problems. The theme tune is pretty naff though, and I've never seen anything particularly good on tv that didn't have a nice tune. ^_^

IMHO Atlantis has made hit status... I think what's scaring you guys off is that it's real....REAL> SG-1 Carter and O'neil have a nice platonic relationship....reality THey've already gotten jiggy wit it... SG-1 They saved the world once a season (at least) and the secret is safe ...reality We've blown ourselves to kingdom come with all the kewl stuff the team brought back...and now MAD MAX takes over... SG-1 Daneil knows how to shoot a gun...reality/ dead dead dead dead Daniel...

People die in Atlantis...They have memorials for the smallest person on the team... People who use guns get shot... Lost in a strange world....rarely do you find your way back.

I like Atlantis because there are consequenses...That's real to me. (steps off his soap box)
