Tanith;5505860Season 1 of SG1 began back in 1997

Then, providing I watched it in the UK when it aired in the US (or there about), I was 10 years old.

Soo.. Apparently, SyFy's FB, has just been absolutely flooded by Stargate fans trying to save SGU/Stargate in general. Its gotten so bad, they started banning people from posting on their wall.

Banned from FB, post on Twitter. Banned on Twitter, send home made Kino's and Ancient communication stones to head office. Home made Kino's and Ancient communication stones sent back, travel and camp outside their office in protest.

Stargate fans united! :stallard:

*Daedalus;5504969It feels very much like the end of an era.

I felt the same way about Star Trek. However, with such a strong IPO, it can't stay dead forever. Eventually they will bring Stargate back.

I hope so too. But then again, I don't want to be 50+ years old when the Stargate franchise would possibly get revived.

Star Trek (TOS) was from 1966 through too 1969. The Next Generation came in around 1987 (my birth year) until 1994. That's a 21-year gap between them. Deep Space Nine came in during 1993, starting up as The Next Generation came to it's conclusion. Voyager came in during 1995, and ran pretty much alongside Deep Space Nine.

Enterprise came in 2001, the same year Voyager ended. That's 39 years between the start of Star Trek, at least Roddenberrys vision of it, and the end of Star Trek; Enterprise finished in 2005.

Then we get a reboot in 2009. If Stargate is anything to follow (from the start-point of SG-1) we've got 44 years before a reboot. I did read a rumour (I think on Gateworld) that the director for the first Stargate film wants to complete two more films to make a trilogy too. Can't see that happening myself though.

I don't see a 'new show' on the horizon, I don't think they've got anywhere left to go with a potential story for the show. Best we can ever hope for now is a reboot, though we'll probably not get that until another 10-20 years time, if at all.

Really, the best move for Stargate was Atlantis. The Atlantis series provided a precedent for adventures in other galaxies.

You wouldn't need Earth, or the US Air Force for an SG team. Just a species that is largely human in appearance, and a base of operations.

So the creators of SG-1 have two options. They can re-imagine the franchise, or they can create a new series based in a completely unrelated area of the universe. This new adventurers would not have to be limited to existing technology, or expectations. The "ancients" had three areas, the Milky Way, the Pegasus galaxy, and the Ori's galaxy (forgot). Everywhere else is free for the creators to experiment with.

How do you create a series which has little connection to our world? Andromeda?

As for potential stories. Every story has already been told, it just hasn't been told in a manner that is relevant to today. The potential remains, just not within the current ruleset. The SG universe is open, if the fans are open.
