Weather you love it or hate it.....

I think secretly a lot of people love this series. And as it's recently come to Netflix in the UK I've re-watched it.
It looks as good as new in HD but it is weird how dated some of the references and comments made are, and apparently it's caused an uproar with the youth's who have found it offensive.....

Personally I couldn't think of anything less offensive than Friends, it's like accusing a tiny kitten of being offensive, but anyway.....

Thoughts?

IS Friends offensive?

Has the world gone mad?

I never really "got" the appeal of Friends but I have seen episodes of it a few times.

There are a lot of shows from that era that people now seem to think is offensive and most of it is just pure BS. People get way too offended by the smallest thing these days.

Never really watched much of it, but I don't recall anything ever being offensive.  When I first read about this issue, I think it was something to do with an episode wherein a character's father is gay and the dialogue was considered homophobic.  I haven't seen it myself, but I guess I can understand seeing as how 90s TV didn't exactly show nuanced portrayals of gays and lesbians.

Apparently, Friends is what non-Americans think American culture really is. I can neither confirm nor deny the authenticity of that assumption, but it sounds accurate enough.

I read the article and had to stop here:

In addition, his rejection of his ex-wife Carol’s lesbian relationship from the very offset of the series connotes an almost homophobic attitude.

Oh come on. HIS WIFE WAS A LESBIAN. So he has to LIKE that? Nope. No. That's not homophobic, that's plain "I don't like my ex-partner's new partner but I have to put up with it for the kids".

Honestly man. People are too easily offended these days. It's bonkers.

Yeah, I have to agree with that, it's stupid.

He's upset about it but not for homophobic reasons at all.
