Trailer. It might take a while to load

At first I didn't know what to expect, so it looked a lot like something to do with God of War (a prequel, maybe). But this movie chronicles the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC, where the army of Spartan warriors plugged a narrow pass into Greece against the entire might of the invading Persian army. They were betrayed by a man, who showed the Persian a pass to flank the Spartan army. The King commanded the rest of his army to flee, and stayed behind with only 300 of his elite. However, they crushed Xerxes' army so completely before they were wiped out, that he was caused to abandon the invasion of Greece after the Battle of Salamis, which similarly decimated his navy. Sounds like an amazing movie, a perfect point in history to play. It doesn't look like this has any huge stars playing in it, which I think is a good thing. Movies with big stars get really overdone. All of the best movies (LotR, Boondock Saints, The Passion, Gladiator is an exception) seem to pull amazing talent without getting some bigshot who arrogantly messes up the movie. Set to be released in 2007, but filming is apparently already completed. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416449/ (movie site_

Great time period, great event, but I couldn't take any film seriously when they're dressed in nothing but a cloak and underwear, it looks a bit too dramatised for me.

I'll probably still see it though.

Oooh joy! I've been waiting for this trailer to come out.

This movie must rock. If they mess this one up... that'll be such a dissappointment! The premise is so good... Can't wait, can't wait!

It doesn't look particularly historically accurate, but it still looks pretty awesome. I'll probaly see it.

Looks and sounds really good, and yes I remember learning about that battle and being amazed. Wasn't the invading army like 1 Million or something?

I'm sure the characters in The Last Samurai talk about that battle to..

Looks ok, the acting in the trailer is pretty crap but the fighting seems good.

In reality, the invading army was 100,000 persians, and the defending army was 1500 greeks, 300 being spartans, the other 1200 being Athenian support soldiers. The Persians were coming through a narrow pass one by one, and due to the continuous pushing, even after seeing the greek army, they couldn't turn back and each of them was pushed to their death one by one by all those behind them. Since then the story has been exagerated and changed to make the Spartans look more and more magnificent, however in reality, they were uneducated barbarians in comparrison to the Atheneans.

What's true in this story? -Spartan children were judged on a hilltop after birth, however most boys servived this test and I'll leave it at that -There were 300 spartans at the battle -There was a narrow pass (much narrower than the one shown in the film however) -Their uniforms (well not really, most faught naked really, but it's pretty much as close as they can get without this film being NC-17 and banned from television

ZeroniteWasn't the invading army like 1 Million or something?
Greek historians wrote that Xerxes fielded an army of 2.5 million, including reserve and support troops, but current historians believe that that was an exaggeration, citing lack of food and especially water. They estimate the Persian troops that directly fought at Thermopylae to number between 150-200,000. Still, being outnumbered about 700 to 1 is no small feat.
nd the defending army was 1500 greeks, 300 being spartans, the other 1200 being Athenian support soldiers.

According to the story, however, the Spartans told the other Greeks to flee to prevent the entire Greek army from being wiped out, so the bulk of the fighting was only the several hundred Spartans and the Athenian rearguard (100 lightly armored hoplites)

Fighting soldiers one by one with a force of hundred is a cakewalk in comparison to what the film shows
