No seriously, what happened to it? It seems they rarely even discuss real history anymore - the vast majority of the shows now (Like "axemen") are about rednecks out in the woods whining about how hard it is to be a 40 year old man with a high school diploma.
And even the shows about actual history are dumbed down to a mentally-handicapped-preschooler level, trying desperately to be "cool" and "trendy" with flashy special effects.
Has America really declined to this level of stupidity? Grown adults are so ADD, that this is the closest thing to real history/anthropology that they're going to understand?
No. It's all about getting ratings. Reality shows are what America wants, America is going to get it. No matter what channel, they'll swing it toward what the people want. Look at TLC. The Learning Channel. They have shows about families of Midgets, Evangelical Christian families, polygamists, and more families with lots of kids. And Sarah Palin. Its all about ratings.
No! I'm Spamacus!

Hearst Corporation, Disney-ABC Television Group, and NBC Universal are in the business of making money, and the best way of doing that is seeking the largest audience possible. It simply would not be profitable for them to convert university history lectures into television programs. Most people aren't that interested in history.
Reality programming is relatively cheap and has shown to be quite popular. Luckily History International appears to have more serious programming than its American-oriented sibling.
Oh America home of the brave, or has it been amended to stupid yet?

Contrary to popular belief, we're not retarded. But thanks for the input.
Schmidt I'm referring to the people as a whole, I'm an American too. Just watching as that movie Idiocracy gets more and more accurate lol
Oh I know you meant a whole. But again, contrary to popular belief, Americans as a whole are not retarded. It's just a minority who are stupid, ignorant, and uninformed people being seen in the light because the news likes to scare the people into watching their channels. Honestly we're not stupid. Bill Maher, I like him too. He's very extreme in his views though, you should be careful about blindly following what he says. That goes for everyone in media, and any type of media.
America is not stupid, just ignorant. If the majority had any idea that intelligent discussion, learning and knowledge is being oppressed and hidden, well...
Don't go calling the US ignorant if you're going to not call anyone else ignorant. Most if not all of the developed countries on this world have ignorant masses. The government keeps all kinds of things from the public around the world, not just us. There are radical groups all over, not just here. Secret agendas are thrown around in the back-rooms of government, across all countries. There's corruption, dirty dealings all over. And the public is not even close to knowing about any of it.
