This is very important and you all should read it. No matter how long it is you won't waste time reading it. Well, you guys know what I would do now? Be an entire hour searching for mods and then spend the rest of the time playing Oblivion. The game is just great and very entertaining. But why are we all here? Because we are either modders or people searching for mods. Now take a look, which is the best Oblivion mod? The OOO, right? Now, why is that mod so important and has thousands and thousands of downloads? Because it's a great mod that needs lots of people to work on it. If you search for mods you would realise that there are hundreds, each one made just by one person. Those mods are so far, far away from being important, fun or really enhance the game, and of course, of being downloaded. If you are a modder is because you want to make something you like, and if you are searching for a mod is because you want more or different fun. So, to have things we like we have to mod games. But this is slow and complicated, it needs a lot of time. So what should we do? Several things: -Focus on great/huge mods/maps that everyone would like (or at least 1/6 of the community). People are really grateful of these mods because basically they are the best. This happens in any game, in Medieval 2 Total War: Stainless Steel, in Star Wars Battlefront 2: Mod 123 (and Rends' maps (this user is an exception, he is the fucking boss, does an excellent job and works alone)), and in Oblivion: OOO. -(I forgot this point while writing the rest, no joke) -Announce them. No one is going to help or play a mod if users don't know about it. All of this mods should be able to be dowloaded from here, elderscrolls.filefront.com. You wouldn't imagine how many mods are lost in Internet, to get some awesome mods you need several hours, even days. -Upload and announce all mods here. Abandon other pages and focus on this one. This may not happen with Oblivion but Star Wars Battlefront 2 and both, Medieval and Rome Total War have lots of forums and webs, this messes everything. -Of course a web for the mod, if the mod worths it and is supported by many people it needs and can afford a web page. Or, unleast a good thread in the forum. Take a look at some examples: Warhammer Total War - Warhammer Total War - The Guild SWB2 Battle of Coruscant - Battle of Coruscant | The Third Age Total War - Third Age: Total War - This has an awesome page, but the mod is dead, you know why? Because he worked alone. Stainless Steel - Stainless Steel - Total War Center Forums SWGEmu - SWGEmu.com Adventure Middle Earth - Abenteuer Mittelerde :: News - this ones had a problem when modding and right know they are studying how to solve it, this things happen but are needed in order to make Huge Mods people like. -And the last but the most important point: What mod to make. There are two types of awesome mods, the ones which enhance the game (OOO, Beauty Pack and so, visual and object packs too) and the ones (I love this ones) which use the game's engine, gampeplay and properties to make the game bigger or different. -I don't think the game can be enhanced any more (at least with innovation) so lets focus on the others. What worlds could be created?: Fantasy: -Lord Of The Rings -Warhammer -Extreme Elder Scrolls - The entire world, Morrowind + The Empire + the others (I like this fantasy world but don't know much about it) Real: Middle Ages Roman Empire ... -Do you have new ideas, post and comment! But remember: And please keep this in mind, don't make little mods which are almost hidden. Take part, unite to a mod team or start one. Make a thread and reclut. Make or help an awesome mod which everyone would like to work on and enjoy. Another suggestion, don't upload things to filefront.com, upload things to elderscrolls.filefront.com. Filefront is totally messed up, it's a slow web, and at least half of the links don't work. elderscrolls.filefront.com is the oposite. It's faster, has less non-mod announcements, and is nicer. EXTRA NOTE FOR MODDERS: the mod Adventure Middle Earth right now is having a problem due to the map space let by Oblivion, which lets a space no bigger than the map you already know, once this problem is solved this new mods could be finished.
I didn't make it!
You know, not All of us are modders. Most of us just play the game and DL mods cause we aren't able to mod with CS.
people make mods because they want to, very few people take requests. and not many people go in this section of the forum anyways
You all (the oblivion community) don't have the mod spirit that the Total War community has. They work in teams and do things I would even pay for. :lookaround: I keep searching but you just don't have that spirit, that need of having new things for oblivion. The greatest innovation among the oblivion mods is the pet store and those pirate islands. That's all. You seem to have had enought with OOO. :uhm: I'm a little bit dissapointed, when I saw this great page filled with mods I thought there were going to be great things but... no. You don't even mention mods you've found, or perhaps, you not even search for them. It's all one thing, the spirit, if you don't have it it's very difficult to change your minds.
Total War and Oblivion are to completely different games, it's idiotic to this mod community's talents on a totally unrelated game. Modding isn't easy, especially for such a complicated game. RTS games are always easy to mod - I've done it myself.
You want the mod community and all it's glory? Visit the official forums. We're a Rag Tag group here. They've done some amazing things.
Perhaps you haven't looked around enough, there are countless 'Teams' working for Oblivion as well, Try looking for Tamriel Rebuilt, The Lost Spires, and Silgrad Tower to name just a few. They're all fantastic work, done by great teams. I would argue that Oblivion has one of the strongest, if not the best modding community on the Internet. And certainly one of the largest!

I would have to disagree with you there, online communities such as the Steam Communities are by thousands larger.

Ah, then I stand corrected! I've never heard of the 'Steam community' before, does it have to do with Valve? (I.E. Half Life?)
Yup, and it's huuuuuuuugee

Steam is the secure game client through which you can purchase Valve games, and through which you need to play them.
Some games are available outside of Steam, but if it's a Valve game, they're going to force you to log in to Steam to play it if they have any choice in the matter.
Several other games are run through Steam, usually contractually to aid in distribution (such as X3: Reunion, which would be harder to distribute outside the EU as Egosoft is a small studio in Germany).
I don't know how, and I don't know why, but this is totally Sheep's fault.
