Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this thread but didn't really see a spot categorizing cheats so move it if needed. I've seen this problem posted on other forums sites before but didn't really get a good enough explination to make it happen for myself. To put in a cheat evidentally I need to bring down some bar that lets you type stuff in, and I can't seem to find a way to do this. All I know is that I need to push "~" sometime during the process. However, it doesn't work without doing this other stuff that people are talking about. Something involving dev or devuser or a target line/command thing. Sounded confusing so I was just wondering if someone could please clarify this for me. Thanks.
I don't spend enough time here

Simply hit ~ then click something like a door and then type unlock
But cheats are a really bad way to play the game it takes all the fun out of it id reccomend not using them
Tried it and didn't work. Even if it did work then how would you use a money cheat? I have a list of cheats next to me like a money one that says "player.Additem 0000000f XXX" then replace X's with amount of gold desired. However, I also heard of maybe my Media Center causing the problem? If so then how can I prevent this? BTW-I have Oblivion for 360 so I bought it for PC just for these modding and cheating purposes. Thanks anyway, any other suggestions?

the concept of the console is easy to understand, its the portal to editing parameters in the game instead of in the construction set, you hit tilde (~) which pauses the game and displays the games record of coding action, and when you click on an object in console mode the id name of the object is displayed in quotes at the top of the screen, and any legitimate commands entered will affect that object, as nebulaoblivion stated when saying to click on the door (i.e. select it) and then typing unlock (applying a command to it). the easiest cheat to use in the console is tgm, or toggle god mode, its a command used by the developers to test creatures and so on without the hassle of being killed or running out of mana, so basically it gives you unlimited mana and invulnerablity, as well as not being over encumbered or running out of fatigue. god mode indeed. as for other commands, like player.additem you need to know the hex code (like 0000000f, or the hex code for gold) and then the number. get the construction set and use the help website to get much more information on this. that and im too lazy to give a definitive list of codes and etc. and happy new year from the eastern seaboard
lol, guys I appreciate the help but like I am saying, when I hit "~" nothing at all happens. So...my question is why?
Ok so I'm a dumb ass. Figured it out finally thanks guys.
