Again, I'm sorry about the triple post. I'm gonna go crazy here pretty soon because apparently Oblivion hates me now. :(

So anyway I started Oblivion one time and when I clicked the "Load" option on the title screen it didn't make the selection noise. "Weird...." I thought. I ignored it and just player.the game normally. When I went to pick up a Misc item in-game, I realized there was no noise. So I tried dropping the Misc item, and no noise. Tried dropping and picking up a weapon, piece of armor, apparatus, ingredient, potion, and soul gem, and there was noise. "WTF?" I thought. So I closed Oblivion and went to the Oblivion sound folder. I couldn't find the folder for the sound effects like the ones that aren't looking, which I find strange because where else could the sound effects come from? (Getting off topic a little) I have a really good feeling that if I ignore this it's only going to get worse, like it always does for me. In all, the picking up and dropping a misc item noise doesn't work and the selection noises like the ones on the title screen don't work.

This never happened on the 360 version, which is strange because everything that could possibly go wrong on my 360 version has gone wrong. It's not the saved game's problem because my other saved games with different characters are having the same problem, so there's something wrong with the data. About a day before this happened it had this problem with the selection sounds only but I somehow fixed it by turning off Oblivion and restarting the computer. This time that's not working. I have no idea whatsoever how this could have happened. The last time I did something with the sound folder was remove a folder from the fx folder that changed the noise it makes when you pull out a weapon. (I don't even know how this happened. It just suddenly started making a different noise instead of the default noise for no reason.)

Could someone tell me where to find the folder with the sound effects like the ones mentioned so I could check to see if they're there or if they somehow got deleted? Or just tell me how to fix it directly? I know this is only going to get worse if it's not fixed soon. I know 100% it's not corruption, if that's any help. I've tried everything I could possibly think of and nothing worked. Someone please help!

Assasin634;4401009Again, I'm sorry about the triple post.

Triple posting would be posting three times in the same thread consecutively. You've made three topics for different issues.

Triple threading then.... lol

I couldn't think of another word for it at the time so I just said "posting".

wait so is it just the picking up and dropping noises or are all the noises in-game not playing?

Just some noises, and also, just like I said, somehow they are getting worse. A little more of the sounds in game aren't working.

Ok, you know the noise it makes on the title screen when you click Load or New or Options? That noise isn't working in the title screen or in game. When dropping or picking up a Misc item, it won't make the noise. For some reason the only noises I'm missing for the picking up/dropping items is the Misc items. And now the new thing that's going on is when you click on an icon on the map to fast travel, the noise that plays while the "Travel to...." message comes up doesn't work.

I'm just worried that if this doesn't get fixed, I could lose sound effects like footsteps, sword noises, the noise it makes when you hit someone with a sword/blunt weapon, etc. So far all the noises I'm losing are in the FX folder, but what this problem leaks into the voices folder?

Like I said, I'm just worried that it could get worse. I know the sound effects that I don't have now aren't important, and I could live without, but it could get worse. If I were to lose voices from the game, my character in game would be like "OMG!!! Everyone's caught my "No Talking" disease! Now everyone has to magically teleport what they're going to say into my mind just like I have to do to everyone else! Whoopde F**cking Doo! lol

haha, well make sure you have the newest audio drivers, do you have have any codec packages or vista?

And I forgot what program it is but I think it fixes corrupted .BSA archives, try googling something along those lines.

Here's something that may help somehow, but this isn't really a problem. Ever since I got Oblivion for the PC there's been this thing where whatever sound I look at directly I won't be able to hear it very well. Say someones talking to me in game, but it's not where I'm zoomed in on the person's face. If I look at something so they are to the right or left of me, (pretend I look to the right) then I will hear their voice in the opposite direction. (So I will only hear their voice in the left speaker. But this goes for any noise. If I hear something to my left in game, I can hear it 100% on the left speaker, but nothing comes out of the right, except the sounds that are to my right in game. But when I look at that sound to my left, I can't hear it at all. This is really annoying and I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this, as well as the other sound problem with the missing sound effects.

Another "problem" I'm having are unusually quiet footsteps, (I having all sound options on Oblivion turned to 100%, except for music, which is at about 85%), and unusually quiet slicing and hitting noises from swords, blunt weapons, hand to hand, etc. Whenever I'm hitting someone with a weapon, the noises sound somewhat suppressed. Then again this could go with the problem in the paragraph above, since it's always with the person I'm facing. Is this normal, or am I just used to the loud footsteps and slicing/hitting noises from the 360, because on videos on Youtube, the footsteps and slicing/hitting noises are louder than mine. (Or is this just an effect of the video program they're using?)

Btw none of these sound problems are occurring for my other games, just Oblivion. If the above "problems" can't be fixed, or if they're problems at all, I don't really care. I'm getting used to it. But it is still annoying.

The whole "problem" of sounds coming in 100% left or 100% right but you can hardly hear in front of you is something I've been having too ever since I've had the game. go to a snowy area and run around, if you can hear your footsteps crunching through the snow then I don't think it's unusually low. Have you updated your drivers yet? Also, use window's Search and search for FFDSHOW and tell me what you find.

lol wtf is "FFDSHOW"? Kind of off topic ain't it? I searched google with it and got these links to "ffdshow tryouts. I used google and not windows search since it was the easiest to access right now. (Does it matter?)

And while I wait for my "triple thread" marathon to pass, and all of my threads go to the bottom, I'll tell you this bizarre story:

So I had just come to the end of checking out the last of the new "mods shipment", (frequently I went on an Oblivion mods downloading spree and checked them all out one by one once they were all done downloading. I stopped now because there's only 30 KB left on C Drive ;)) I was saving MMM for last since it was the best. Well, second best in my opinion. OOO is first. OOO adds new things in every category, weapons, armor, creatures, everything. MMM focuses on only a couple: a shitload of new creatures, some new armor, some new weapons, some new ingredients, some new misc items. So I think OOO is better. So I activated MMM and started playing. Everything went fine at first, untill the game started crashing every five minutes. Literally, it was like clockwork. I knew MMM was the problem, because it started this right after I activated MMM. I even had MMM for OOO enabled, so it couldn't be a conflict. Now MMM is on my "Mods I Hate" list. So after about 20 crashes, I finally decided to turn MMM off and leave it off. I went back to the game and realized that all the features from MMM were still working! I turned Oblivion off again and made sure all MMM options were disabled. They were.

So then wtf is going on?!?!?! Is MMM possessed?!?!?! I turned of ALL MMM options in the data files and all features of MMM were still active. How could that be?!?!? Someone please tell me wtf is going on and how do I fix it because now Oblivion going to keep crashing since MMM is still mysteriously active after I turned it off.

Btw I know this is off topic of the main thread but I can't some 2 months until my triple thread thing is at the bottom. I have a feeling I'm pissingsome admins off by posting so many threads in a row. lol

ffdshow is a well known codec that messes up Oblivion's sound, that's why you use windows search and not google.... Do you have oblivion mod manager? you n eed to get it if you don't so you can set the load order of the mods, I've never had OOO but I know MMM has to be at the bottom of everything, and even if you have those 2 mods AND "MMM for OOO.esp" you are still going to have random crashes. Plus, do you really think having a million unofficial mods by random people over the internet is going to help your game?

Edit: I might actually download that ffdshow tryouts now, looks good :P
