so yeah i was just strolling through these seemingly easy ruins called Vindasel and the only enemies were easy to dispose of rats and crabs...well i got to the end of the ruins and there is a person there...naturally i get ready for a battle because it's usely just bandits in ruins...well i notice she just stands there and i walk up to her and i talk to her...her name is Umbra and when i talk there are no options to choose..so i can't even really talk to her...and she keeps saying that "Umbra is everything"....i happened to notice that she had really nice armor i thought why not kill her and take it. So i shot her with an arrow from far off and she says "Time for Umbra to feed!!!!!"..i know..kinda sounds a little creepy..she pulled a glowing purple sword (i assume it had a poison enchantment or something) and she ran at me and killed me in 2 hits..and my health was over half way full!..so i have to wonder..who is she and how can i kill her when she apparently severely outmatches me...if she's important to the story then don't say any spoilers...but i want to know if anyone else has encountered her.

mhmm, Shrine of Clavicus Vile, u need to be lvl 20 or so to do it. oh and uh. that sword she has, (its also called umbra) its the most powerful sword in the game. it has soultrap enchantment, so it steals your soul. i would highly recommend killing her and getting that awesome loot, since the quest involves killing her as well. good luck.

It's pretty much the best sword for basic damage in the game, it glowed purple because it has a drain soul enchantment.

Across the land of Cyrodiil, there are numerous statues of Daedric dieties. If you "activate" these statues and meet the criteria, it will task you with first getting an offering, then when you get it, the Daedra will give you a quest. The Clavicus Vile statue is where you start the Umbra quest, but I can't recall where it was...

Umbra doesn'tjust have a soul trap spell, it has THE soul trap spell, it can soul trap for 120secs and you can even capture a human soul with it, wich is pretty rare. It has the best basic damage of all swords, but remember, you cant enchant it so you can't give it any fire/frost or shock damage.....If you want to kill her, there are 2 good ways: 1) attack her in stealth and with arrows from the podium (the one before you take the trap down to her) and keep on doing that, she'll eventually die, but it'll take a while. 2) Attack her and run like hell to the Imperial city, where you can watch how she kills half the city watch....Both are tricky and the arrow option doesn't always work (in my case she kept running against a wall which made me able to keep on shooting arrows at her in stealth mode), If you run, you'd beter run hard, very hard and carry enough potions...

yeah..i know about the statues..i have found a few of them...the ones that give you bound armor and weapons for a little bit....but i didn't know there was any criteria involving them...what kind of criteria?

nyet comrade, those are just doom stones (or something like that) you want ones with people around, benches, and a unique statue. that there is a daedric shrine, and ull get a notice "you have found *blah blah blah daedra lord*'s shrine" the one you want, Clavicus Vile's shrine is a statue of a little boy and a dog. go google it or something, ull find the shrine eventually...
