A couple days ago I clicked on my OBMM icon, opened it up and attempted to play oblivion. When the main title came up there was no music or anything, "strange..." I thought. I went to my oblivion.ini and checked my soudn settings, the main title music was set to .6000 and I didn't know what it was set to before so I didn't touch it, but I did turn enable3dsound [don't know if this is what it's called] to 1 and tried to play. When I tried to load my game it would just freeze instantly, sometimes it would show a loading bar but mostly it wouldn't. Thinking it might be a mod problem I deselected ALL my mods (mind you I had all my mods working with no crashes and 30 fps average), but not the DLC. When I opened oblivion the main title was lagging, the map in the background was stuttering and lagging and I could hardly move my cursor. I thought it must have been the .ini thing I changed, so I set enable3dsounds back to 0, which did not solve my problems. Eventually I just gave up.
I uninstalled oblivion, SI, and knights of the nine with all of my DLCs. I deleted the My Documents/Games/Oblivion folder (backed up my saved games) and then deleted everything that was left in my C:/Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion file. I just reinstalled Oblivion, SI, KOTN, and most of my DLCs (missing fighter's stronghold and Battlehorn). The stuttering was still there and when I try to start a new game it just freezes instantly. Just to clarify, I uninstalled OBMM and OBSE and reinstalled them too and updated olbivion to 1.2.416.
:mad:SUMMARY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ALL DETAILS ABOVE::mad: My oblivion game was not loading so I unchecked all my mods and suddenly the main title turned laggy, I uninstalled and reinstalled everything but all my mods but the main title is still laggy and I can't start a new game without it freezing.
Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, Please, offer any help you have, even if you're a noob who just looked up oblivion on google and turned up here I still need info, seriously.

Tell us the specs of your computer, i.e. how much ram, cpu, vid card, sound card, etc. That would help us to better help you.
ok I have a dual core at 1.80 ghz each (3.10 gHz), 3 gigs of RAM, ATI 3870 (800 Core, 1200 Mem), I don't know about my sound card but I know I'm using HD Realtek drivers, 650 watt power supply, 500 gig Hard drive.
If you need the dxdiag crap just ask.
ok seriously people, If I can't get any replies by sunday I will have lost all faith and respect for this forum.

have you tried the latest video drivers if you dont have them? the 3dsound option turns on/off eax effects, so if you're using vista, leave it off unless you have alchemy and an x-fi. have you tried uninstalling, deleting everything, using a registry cleaner (i cant think of one atm, but check around for good ones) and then reinstalling. if your soundcard is onboard, then your drivers should be fine, just check to see if you ahve the latest ones (i.e download them and try to install them, if it dont work then you probs have the latest, or your operating system is fuzzed). if its NOT onboard sound, then thats probably the problem, using realtec drivers with a non realtek card. its also worth checking the archive invalidation settings in obmm, and maybe updating your save files to the mod's you are using to test after a clean install (use wrye bash, but backup first). hope that helps.

oh, and uninstall obmm before uninstalling oblivion, it has a separate install directory too, so maybe thats why the problem is persisting. and remeber to install the patches you had before when reinstalling, its easy enough to forget as i have found out many times.
I did all that stuff you said (except cleaning my registry when uninstalling which I'm going to do tommorow) and nothing seems to be working, I'm now just trying to play oblivion without the official mods or expansions. But like I said before my game was working perfectly with all my mods active, anyway hopefully that registry cleaner works.
well I have a small problem here, somehow my uninstall.exe thing has disappeared. when I clicked uninstall oblivion it told me the shortcut or something was missing, so I went into control panel/uninstall programs and tried to uninstall and its unresponsive.
So should I just delete the whole Bethesda Games folder or what?
nevermind, I used the setup.exe from the CD
Well I uninstalled everything, used regCure for my registry, but now before I do anything else I want to ask if the DiVx codec will hurt oblivion, and I have a vista codec pack, I don't know if that came with vista or I downloaded that form somewhere, but any thoughts would be.... thoughtful.
Well I give up, reinstalled oblivion, only oblivion, no SI, no OBMM, deleted the ffdshow codec, no official or unofficial mods. I give up oblivion,
I pretend I'm cooler than AzH

A tad bit extreme don't you think? This section of the forums isn't overly active since there are more dedicated Oblivion sites out there.megadace;4363489 Well I uninstalled everything, used regCure for my registry, but now before I do anything else I want to ask if the DiVx codec will hurt oblivion, and I have a vista codec pack, I don't know if that came with vista or I downloaded that form somewhere, but any thoughts would be.... thoughtful.
Why would a video codec pack effect Oblivion? It's videos are in Bink Video format.

No one has won, the people here don't have the answer your after and rather than going somewhere else you uninstalled it.
I went to 3 other forums, oblivion won not the forum, and there seems to be no solution.
as my friend gonzales would say,
plus I unistalled it like 5 billion times already, and I don't know shit about codecs, only that certain ones will make oblivion bitchy and at least now I know it's sound based.
And a tad extreme? HELL YEAH!!!
