Everytime i compile my map it says "cant read 'mymap'.prt

what does it mean?

There are 3 steps to the compilation process.

1. BSP 2. VIS 3. LIGHT

Step 1 outputs three files. .BSP .VIS .PRT . Step 2 takes those three files to create the structure of the map. Step 3 takes the .bsp and creates all the lighting that will be in your level.

Sometimes during Step 1, the process dosen't output a .prt file (happens to me, but no clue why), and when it reaches Step 2, it will say it cannot find it. Most of the time it has to do with something funky in your .map file. Try re-saving or deleting the last thing you added to it and re-compile. If it gives you this same error again, lemme have a look at it and I will see if I can get it to output a .prt file.

i pretty much get it every time i use lod terrain along with other errors like a vertex being to steep...i hate that...and im always getting other probs like when you make a terrain like snow that has partially cave in an entrance but with enough room for the player to get in.

anyway, when i get inside my map...it is completely caved in up and beyond the entrance!!!!!!!

WHATS UP WITH THAT!!!!!!

(but that was kinda off subject :lookaround: )

Well, with LOD Terrain, you can easily avoid the errors. When dragging the terrain around, look out for any of the dots changing yellow. If any of the dots are yellow, then that means that the terrain is too steep or contorted in such a way that it wont work. Select your terrain and press V, and check to see if any of the dots are yellow instead of pink.

Regarding the messed up map ingame, the reason for that is, is b/c you didnt run vis due to the no .prt problem.
