I am pretty educated on the Q3/ET engine games. We had this issue with the ETF mod for ET. The ET engine has a limit to how many .pk3 files it can read. Inside your "etmain" folder, look to see how many of your files say pk3.tmp

Those are temp map files that did not download completely. Delete any of them! Also look for any older map versions that are not played and delete those. Common sense will tell you not to delete "common" maps like "Fuel dump.pk3" so don't get stupid and start deleting alot of .pk3's

Also make sure you have "Auto download" on when joining. If not, then you can join a server without all the needed files by accident causing this problem.

Try joining "Pure" servers only and see what happens. If none of this works, then sorry, but you got a corrupted version of ET and need to uninstall and re-download.

I don't see how that can happen. I have auto downloads turned of because of the "needed" files the server runs. Like weapon skins, added or changed sounds, etpro watermarks, the campaign pk3 and the pretty flowers instead of landmine markers. If you got downloads turned off then what mostly is required are the maps and a mod like etpro. Full conversions of the game like True Combat:Elite and maybe the ETF (haven't tried that one yet) are best to download manually. I haven't got any problems joining servers that way. In the beginning I turned downloads on just to get the map files quickly but turn downloads off after joining. But in a while most common used maps are in your et folder.

About the pk3 limit. I have seen people then running in to the error: ET could not reopen pak0.pk3. I haven’t seen any other problems with that (yet).
