What do you think? Was FEAR advertised as more then it really was?

KnippschildWhat do you think? Was FEAR advertised as more then it really was?

Definately NOT, especially after engaging in mp battle over last weekend for a few days.

I have experienced what may definately be cheats used by many though. Guys flying around corners, running along walls, and jumping off pillars while doing front kicks. Every time I initiate a front or slide kick there is no changing direction, only a line followed in the dirction you're facing when you start the kick. I've also seen guys get up right after direct hits from grenades, and not budging from point blank shotgun blasts.

Now admitedly I was getting barely more than 30FPS as I was capturing while playing, but I have tried changing direction mid air during kicks in practice with no capture going on, and the mouse certainly doesn't make it happen. I don't see how strafe or lean keys would either.

I know at least one person has evaded any obfuscators used to guard the code and written an extractor for the game. He has mentioned it on public forums too. With that kind of thing going on, I could see how similar knowedge could be used to make Matrix type cheats for the game, perhaps without PB even being able to catch it.

It's a pity this kind of thing can't be caught up with before lots of cheating has already taken place. It's the main reason I fell out of mp gaming for some time. I definately get the feeling that many claim they are tired of playing certain games about the time PB updates come out and effectively stop their cheat methods.

None the less, this is the best game I've played online by far. I am now hungry to work at improving my melee, but I seem to manage pretty well without it, and have developed ways to deal with those that use it and/or cheats well.

I'm saying no because I only heard about F.E.A.R about 2weeks ago  And I've still yet to go out and buy it :(

Crew; I felt the advertising prior to its release was very heavy (i.e. one of the default install pictures, usually the 'little girl', appeared on 1/3 of the ads I saw, on a regular basis on various filesites like Gamespot, Fileplanet and here on Filefront) and I admit I wasn't sure what to expect (first started seeing the ads in August or September, and picked it up along with Quake 4 in November) when I got it installed, but having been playing the game for a couple of months now (and having had played the SP demo) I feel the hype was appropriate, again, if heavy. The game is one of the scariest FPSes I've ever come across; while Doom 3 is more like gore and guts/tough as nails, I found F.E.A.R. lived up to its reputation as a psychological horror FPS. Combine that with incredible graphics (rivalling HL2, IMHO) and wonderfully realistic AI tactics and gameplay, I haven't for a moment regretted slapping down the dough for it. My vote: no, the hype was appropriate. -Worker.

mehh... I kinda am sick of FEAR Ive beaten it to hell, it gets pretty repetive over time I must say it dose have some good level design and the fire fights are pretty entertaing. I dont really like most of the weapoens accept for the MP5, Laserblaster, Shotgun and the Greande Luancher.

Well... I played 4 hours of the singleplayer and never found it scary, just repetitive and boring. And the multiplayer does not come close e.g. SOF2 in my opinion...

The F.E.A.R. disc is now buried deep in the DVD-closet - sadly.
