In a Nutshell... so you don’t have to read everything We are creating a multiplayer community map pack to be released in the near future to give the community a little something extra to play. We are looking for experienced level designers (+ a web designer and concept artist) to design and create levels for F.E.A.R, members will not need any knowledge of 3d modelling or textureing software (although it is a huge bonus) as we are using all of the default content provided in F.E.A.R so to speed up the development process and release faster Team Goals... what we are doing “Hevoc” and myself are creating a team of talented individuals who are willing to devote a little time to create (what will hopefully be) a collection of some of the best community created multiplayer levels for F.E.A.R. All levels will use the content shipped with the game to both speed up the development process, have a shorter download time for you guys and help keep the art standardised throughout the levels Team Requirements... what we are hoping you can help us with We are looking for talented level designers to design and build multiplayer levels along side others to create the best multiplayer levels to the best of our abilities. Team members are not required to be 100% pro level designers, nor are they required to have any knowledge of 3d model or textureing software as we are using all of the content shipped with the game We also require a “webpage designer” and “concept artist”, although they are not essential, they will help the project a lot and your contributions would have a large impact on the map-pack Be a Part of the Team... why should you join Why should you join our team and not another project? Well listed below are some reasons and perks to being a part of the project. • Short development time, and a fast release – most project take between 1.5 and 3 yrs to finish... and that’s IF they finish. We are not creating any custom artwork, sounds or code and because of this, development time will shorten unbelievably. It’s a fact that one of the main reasons of lengthy development time is due to the artwork creation, especially when creating next-generation game content for games such as F.E.A.R. Also by not creating any custom textures or any other files apart from level files, it means that the level designers on the team can release their own levels as a separate download wherever they see fit. • No shortage of core members or dependencies – we are all doing the same thing, and therefore we do not depend on other core members to get something else done. Should the unfortunate event of a member leaving occur, each level is your own and although we will provide you with the up most support throughout the development, members leaving will not effect the project as much as it would any other project • Part of a solid team - Team members will all be accepted not only because of their work, but also their attitudes and working ethics. This means that the team will contain no-one that is under-skilled or under-motivated to minimise the risk of project slowdown (or in major case’s... failure). The team as it stands now (when this forum thread was post) consists of myself “Chris”, a Level Designer currently working in the Game industry on a FPS next gen title, and “Hevoc” another experienced level designer who has been actively creating levels for “Aliens vs. Predator 2” for the past 3 years • Part of properly managed team where your opinion matters – As an industry developer, I have insight and knowledge of how the development process works and is managed. Throughout the development of this project I will do my up most to make sure that everyone on the team has an insight in this process and has the opportunity to voice whatever is on his/her mind to further improve and influence the project, therefore bringing the team closer together and release the project with as little issues as possible. • Work alongside others like yourself – The selection process involved in building this team is such that you will be sure to be working with others such as yourself, people who wish to create something exciting to the best of their abilities and see the project through to the end (and maybe further), talented individuals that will not only help you to create the best you possibly can, but also learn from you further improve their own. With a team like this not only will we release something amazing, but also further improve your own skills • Possibility of Industry opportunities and reputation – ever wondered what happens to the development team of successful released game modifications? Many of them either go onto bigger better projects, go their own way to focus on their other interests or… in-fact gain interest from industry game developers and possible job opportunities. I myself know a few people who have been approached by developers interested in hiring them. So at the end of releasing this project, not only would you have created something amazing and have your name on it, further developed your portfolio and CV, gained contacts, friends and knowledge and earned a possible reputation amongst the F.E.A.R community, but also you may just get a job opportunity... although... no promises ^^ Why we are recruiting so early... why not wait until the games released first There are a few reasons to why we are recruiting and announcing the project so early. The main one being that we want to be one of the first community map pack releases for the game, not only announcing this early can we get a head start on the level designs, but we can also get other people who were hoping to achieve the same goal to be a part of the team to further increase our chances. We also have quite a bit of documentation and organisation to get out of the way and locked down before we can start the creation process of the development cycle, such as development process’s (how the development process is going to be managed) and standardisation of public release’s, news and any naming conventions (such as screenshot release’s and how they will be displayed) so what better time than now when we cant even start the content creation process, even if we wanted to. Also with the multiplayer demo already released, and the weapon and item pickups already announced on the official website and in-game, we already know how the game will play and what weapons and items to include in the levels so we can already start designing levels with this taken into consideration. We will also need a webpage and forums, so it may take a while to organise this and get it up and running, so now seems to be the best time. Interested in Joining the Team... be a part of the project Be it to further improve your skills, add to your portfolio or just for fun we would be more than excited to hear from you and hopefully welcome you to the team to further improve the project and release a kick ass community map pack for a kick ass game. What were looking for... is this you Level Designers • Experience on at least one other team project, or several personal projects relating to game modification. • Good knowledge of level design and key item placement • Good Knowledge of asset placement and lighting • An attitude that not only wishes to further improve your own work/skills but also others. That being said you must also be able to give and receive criticism and comments to further improve the project without taking or causing offence. • Willingness to pursue the project through to release (and maybe even further for a 2nd project) Plus’s • Knowledge and experience with art creation for games • Released Modifications and personal projects Webpage Designer/Creator • Ability to create a professional and good looking website that is easy to modify and add content to (such as news updates and images) • Ability to setup and maintain a pass-worded development forum for team members Concept Artist • Ability to create detailed high concepts for environments • Good knowledge of color and lighting • Ability to create concepts from screenshots or level layout overviews Plus’s • Ability to create concepts with the restriction of using only already in-game content Want to apply, or have a question... let us know you’re interested Simply drop an email to myself, or reply to this post and let us know you want to be a part of the team! Included in the email or reply should be any relevant experience you have (links and screenshots welcome) and why you want to be part of the team.
