Yeah I bought Fear 2: Project Origin retail at bestbuy. The game runs fine, I actually beat it already.. however I did notice some sound problems. It seems like the more common sounds like people talking, your footsteps, firing your gun, opening doors ect. sound fine. However sounds like that weird static when Alma appears, or scripted explosions are SUPER and mean SUPER loud. I mean so loud that I get a headache..Some examples are the explosion at the beginning of the game, the air plane crashing, and the bus falling down into the subway tunnel. I'm guessing it has to be with some sound effects the game is using that my older speakers dont support or something.. But I'd really like to know what I could do to fix this problem because in order for the sounds not to blow my ears out I have to turn my volume down so low I can barly hear the common soundfx I discribed.

Another weird example is the beginning of the game. During the opening when you and your team are in the APC, the motor of the APC is SUPER loud and basey.. so much so that I can barely make out what the characterrs are saying... le sigh.. :(

Thanks a lot for the help!

Info:

This is the only game I have that has this problem. Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi 9000 OS: Windows XP Home RAM: 4 gigs (only sees about 2 and a half)

These speakers are a few years old but they're still really nice. They're four speakers, two front, two back and one base.

You could try turning your sub down?

Also, is there any options in the sound menu such as use EAX 3D sound like in the first F.E.A.R.?

My sub is already pretty low.. it's JUST this game..

Nope.. it's very limited.. only soundfx, dialogue, and music volume sliders.

According to my Google search resoults, the problem are not your speakers. It's your sound card. Several other Sound Blaster X-Fi users have complained about having various sound problems with this game, like the inability to hear dialogs or even the total lack of sound. Monolith Productions tech team is aware of those problems and are working on way to fix them. However, there are some things you can try.

  • Try updating your sound drivers. Perhaps your current sound drivers are outdated, so the game doesn't get along with them so well.
  • Do you have any codec pack installed? Coda, K-Lite, Ace, etc? If you do, try removing it. On the other hand, if you don't have any codec pack installed, try installing one. Some people were able to solve their audio problems by installing K-Lite Codec Pack.
  • Furthermore, some people were able to solve their audio problems by downloading this file, putting it to C:\Windows\System 32 and registering it with Regsvr32 to system Registry.
  • How about simply tampering with the in-game audio sliders? Reduce the SoundFX volume and music volume down to 50% (or whatever value you see fit) and leave just the dialog volume level up to 100%.
